Too early but I am board so I thought I'd ask anyway, does anyone know what Hornby and Bachmann have in the pipeline for next year?

The Warley exhibition used to get wind of new products but with the exhibition being earlier this year and the premature publicity last year, I would imagine the maufacturers will try to keep things under wraps until the new year. I'm still waiting for the Bachmann 4CEP.

Bach have already announced the 105 DMU and Peppercorn A2 for the future. I hope the 105 DMU is not in a siding trapped behind the class 150, 4CEP, and MPV... At least the steam items got through, Jubilee, Duck 8, Std 4. Someone was rumouring that the ROD is definitely coming, I do hope so; and the recent NRM co-productions (DP1, Duck 8) make this feel credible. If they could be persuaded to replicate all the NRM's content I should be a very happy bunny!

As for Hornby, they have only 2 months to deliver much of their 2008 new loco programme: T9, Schools, Std 4, HST, and the various reisuue/upgrade items like the Duchess with sound, Railroad 9F, Limby class 20; that's what I can recall quickly from memory, and that is quite a big years' programme...

That'll be me then, but I'm still not holding my breath!

I'm kinda hoping the Blue corner come up with a Standard 2, 78019 would be nice and posibly the tank version too.
I'm looking forward to the A2 as well.

From the Red corner. Now they've got a working 4-4-0 chassis blueprint a D49 would be nice especially if they do a Lentz Rotary Cam Poppet Valve gear equiped version as there are no RTR locos so fitted.
While we're in a North Eastern frame of mind a new B17 would also go down well.

I feel that these choices are not to unreasonable in terms of what they've got to design to get them out. The Std 2 could share the chassis from the Ivatt 2, the D49 and B17 would share the tender.

Would be nice to see City of Truro as the next NRM special to follow the Deltic.

Hopefully the 4CEP will arrive soon and then people can find something else to moan about! (Not on my list)

As far as I am concerned the MPV can go to back of the queue behind the A2, 105 and 150 and whatever Bachmann announce in January. Have heard that there is a possibility of the S&DJR 2-8-0 from the Blue Corner.

There were suggestions a long time ago that Hornby were considering the ROD and the A2 so will they go head to head with Bachmann again over the later?

Talking of 4-4-0s The Dukedog might be on Hornby list together with GWR coaches.

Working signals would be useful and suburban coaches.

My top hope/wish would be for sound in all recent locos - especially the new super detailed ones - and lighting in the coaches - especially Maunsell, Stanier and Gresley. What are my chances do you think?

I think it will be GWR year for Hornby.
I wish Hornby would produce a super detail 73, 67 or 59.
Just a thought, but there are not many electrics in the Hornby 2008 catalogue - Class 90 only in the Scotrail train pack, the odd 86 and 87 and no Class 91. They are also seem to be a bit more difficult to come by with most stocks having sold out. Maybe, just maybe it's the turn of one or two of these for upgrading? All BO-BO, and a new chassis in the Class 43 to work around...? Heljan are clearly going for the 86 - will Hornby just leave them to it I wonder?

Having enjoyed running one of the new HSTs with head and tail lights with DCC, I kind of hope that sound and coach lighting will be on the list in the next couple of years.

*** Small Steam would be my choice, all for LMS/LMR areas:

Actually this area is really ignored by both brands, with small tender locos notable by their absence which is silly as they were the bread and butter earners for most regions, not the big locos!

SO..no more big steam:

Midland Compound and 2P in 4-4-0, Outside frame Kirtley 0-6-0, Deeley/Fowler 3F and 4F 0-6-0 tender loco's with preferably Deeley tenders, plus perhaps a 0-4-4 passenger tank. All with cast bodies and loco drive or perhaps for those with tenders, tender mounted motor and cardan shaft under the fallplate so loco drive can be packed with weight for better balance and adhesion...

NO traction tyres!

Rolling stock too: More diagrammes of Midland Period 2 / LMS Period 3 coaches so a sensible corridor train can be made up.... Vestibule 3rds to match dining car, sleepers, large window first class etc etc... A couple of LMS Suburbans in current quality tooling. Some coaches produced with full Period 2 lining.

With the economic downturn, it will be interesting to see if the volume of new items are announced let alone released.

While undoubtedly there will me new items, R&D on future projects may be cut back, and what was potentially going to be announced in Jan-09, may now be held back until Jan-10.

Now that Hornby have got the T9 sorted I'd like to see more small engines like it, for me ,being LNER biased, I think a Director D11 would be the go. I say the same thing every year but what I really want is the C1 large boilered atlantic, but I wont hold my breath. oh, an O4 (rod) anyone.....please.

Don't hold your breath, Dave - Bachmann's website has altered the 4CEP delivery date to Oct/Nov... The 105 is now due a month later. I'll see if I can chat to Bachmann at the SECC next month
