Welcome!
What did you do on the Southern Region?
I was a passenger on the SR from 1965 to 1970. into central London. First, it was from Blackheath, then from Streatham Common, and finally from Guildford.
I was lucky enough to travel to Guildford in the last few months main line steam. During the last week of steam, I took a Basingstoke train hauled by a MN and changed at Woking for the electric to Guildford. I couldn't resist walking to the end of the platform to look at the loco. The fireman, who looked like a stringy 16-year old, was hanging out of the cab, completely knackered, while the driver tended the fire. I wasn't alone at the platform end - there must have been fifty city gents in their bowler hats, umbrellas, striped pants, black jackets, etc.
