QUOTE (alastairq @ 2 Sep 2008, 07:01) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>many road signs..especially direction signs...WERE quite tall.......much bigger than folk imagine.....all depends on the quantity of information to be printed?
So how TALL was a give way sign in the 60's (in mtres or feet) in the UK?

As far as I can establish the actual pole was normally about eight feet six inches fromr ground level to tip. This varied according to location. Direction signs have to have clearance to walk below them, hence they tend to be much taller.

I hope this is of some help.
