QUOTE (kingsnorton @ 11 May 2008, 07:34) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I have a friend that models USA Railways he just purchased two Roundhouse Steam Locos with onboard sound, the locos came with a remote control that enabled the steam sound, hissing steam, bells and whistles that are all part of the US loco sound scene.
All of my Hornby locos to date are DCC ready, as I have no real ambition to set DCC up on my new layout I was wondering if Hornby had any plans to manufacture a plug in module to supply sound to their DCC ready locos?.
Hornby are offering the Duchess this year with onboard sound and two diesels. If you want to add sound to a loco you can buy ESU decoders with various loco specific sounds from South West Digital or Howes of Oxford. It will require a bit of modelling ability to fit in the decoder and speaker to get the best sound.
