One of the first "extra" locomotives I asked for my layout when I was young was an electric. I chose the EM2 Electra because the changeover switch was well disguised compared to the London Euston model. I lusted after the Triang Hornby catenary system but could never afford it. I wonder how well it sold? Maybe sales were poor which is why Hornby have never revived it?

QUOTE The next few years will see electric lay ghost to diesel.
I think that is unlikely. It will take longer than that just to deal with the line to Bristol never mind the rest of the west country and Wales. Are they even any plans to update the current HST fleet operating out of Paddington?

If anyone is unfamiliar with what UK pattern catenary posts look like, there's a picture here in the gallery which shows what a fantastic job Jim has done in modelling it.

I know I posted a link before, but this time I've just got to post the photo in the thread so we can admire his work.

There aren't going to be too many show venues where that layout is going to fit?

I do hope we'll be able to see into the storage yards; there won't be space (or time) for us all to hang around the front waiting for our favourite train to arrive.

QUOTE especially with little flanges and scale couplings.

So /that/ explains the pizza cutters - at least for electrics - on continental models I had always wondered

Owner of more than a few continental electrics, but only as a sideline
