What are you putting the pins into? Is it MDF, Fibreboard or what?

This could be the reason you are having pins bend. I have found that as long as there is a hole there isn't really a problem getting the oins through the track.

Sorry I missed the bit about drilling a hole. I was under the impression you were putting them through holes.
