OK, here's an update on the ViTrains air horns problem. ViTrains have sent their retailers supplies of spare horns - customers who have received broken examples should contact them for replacements. I'd say that was a pretty rapid response to the matter, even if it was a fault of the packaging in the first place.

10/10 to ViTrains for looking after their punters!

Just one question to any passing moderator (I'm not having a go)..........but this seems to be running on two threads simultaneously.

Out of curiosity, would this make it easier to paint the nose to cut down on the light bleed?

Well the nose itself is a seperate moulding and just plugs into the main body and presumably doesn't take that much effort (Mine certainly didn't) to remove it and then paint it and refit it.

I got my 'David Lloyd George' on wednesday very nice indeed and at a good price so a
for Vi Trains from me. I might dull the fronts down a bit but apart from that i was very pleasd.

Reading the forum about the damaged parts was a bit off puting but i was lukey to get one undamaged

One thing that was very good to see is the box it comes in i did not have any problams removing it at all unlike some of the hornby boxes so
again.

In all im a very happy buny and looking forword to other locos from them

I bought one today the the St Neots exhibition and find it to be an excellent model. Looks terrific (better than Bachmann) and runs well. The roof detail was intact on my model but the retailer addedd the extra bag of horns etc in case I had a problem later.

Brilliant first effort at a great price. Look forward to more.

Anyone actually replaced the air horns - are the originals just push fitted or glued
Just curious as I've read a number of "the retailer found one with only one broken air horn" instead of "the retailer swopped the broken air horn for one off another loco"

I have been told that you have to take the body off to replace the airhorns.

The body clips on so not a big issue.

The airhorns have some sort of spot fixing on the inside of the body. Not sure if its plastic heat weld or glue. The advice is this spot fixing needs to be unfixed (obviously
) and the damaged horn then pops out and the replacement can be fitted with glue or whatever.

My replacements have not yet arrived. I am on a mailing list.

I will cross this horn fixing bridge when they eventually turn up.

Happy modelling

That yellow plastic end is just so awful! Surely a re-paint is needed.
The buffers are also terrible, cheap and nasty looking, too small and set too low (as on the mk2 Bachmann model). Replacements can be used though, mounted a little higher with something behind them, other than the fresh air on the supplied model !

As far as I can see, no 4mm RTR model 37 has captured the look of the actual 12"/ft prototypes windscreen, but this ViTrains model comes fairly close.

The general problem seems to be the 3 individual windows, where the thickness of the glazing material is difficult to hide. This also makes the windows look too small.
The windscreen pillars are always much too thick, whereas the prototype is virtually flush right across.

I would have thought a better solution would be to use a single piece of glazing for all three panes (moulded accordingly) with a either a very thin etched frame over the top, or high quality printed window frames and surrounds?

Look at pictures of the prototype to see what I mean.

Here are a couple of links.

My impression FWIW (of the VITrains loco) is that the frame above the screens is too skinny. True the Bachy one isnt spot on either, but it suits my eye more.

Yes it does look a bit "skinny" above the windows, but not by a huge amount. (see the link above to 53A's photo site - class 37 ). In all honesty I'm judging this from photos as I haven't seen the ViTrains model in the flesh, so to speak.

The frame thickness I was referring to, is with regard to depth, both outside and visible inside.
The same problem afficts a lot of D&E models where the windscreen is not quite right.
