If it runs OK then go ahead. There is just about room in the tender with a little bit of juggling for the decoder.
I have a later issue one with the Boxpok wheels & although nowhere near as powerful as a Roco or Fleischmann its not a bad loco.
The current Roco model (drives on the tender and the driving wheels) is superb though, far, far better but more money.
