Poor movie prop in Charlotte Gray

Did anyone see the WW2 movie Charlotte Gray on C4 last Saturday night? The French resistance team were blowing up an arms train - so what loco did they use? That's right, a BR standard 9F 2-10-0 (92240, I think). I wouldn't have known a French or German steam loco from my elbow, so why use a British one built 10 years after the war ended? Who researches these things? May as well have had the Nazis driving around in Morris Minors, using a convertible 1000 as a staff car.

Totally ruined the movie for me, much to my wife's amusement!

QUOTE (BRITHO @ 7 May 2008, 12:29) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>As in "Mission completely unbelievable" - how do you fly a helicopter through the channel tunnel?

and in the space provided for a single train (there was an oncoming train, which was also a TGV that had no pan)

Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure this particular TGV had no engine either, I'm sure they had all their baggage in the trailing driving car.

Again I got lost in the moment and was more concerned about the problems flying the helicopter.

Then again, my trainspotting was never the best.

I prefer looking out for wristwatches on Indians in cowboy movies (trains appear in these very frequently but everyone breaks the windows to shoot out of them)

or telegraph poles in medieval movies

or other such gross errors.

I am, however, going to build up my trainspotting skills and join you guys in getting thumped on the couch for pointing out details of the use of trains in movies

I also think it is a good idea to nominate our movie/film with the worst train prop. I will have to think of my nomination.

Scary isn't it that we notice this about trains while out there there are aircraft enthusiasts cringing at wrong planes in films and tank modellers wondering why the Americans are fighting their own tanks in the battle of the Bulge, ( hold on is that still friendly fire?). Mark my words you'll be dating telephone boxes next

Plywood covered T34's pretending to be Tiger tanks in just about every war movie, oh here I go, the white transit pootling down the hill in the background as the pirates land in some period drama. Films that start off on a GWR train and then in the next shot are flying along behind an LMS engine!

Oh and don't get the missus started on the liberties with the armed forces in any TV show especially!

What gets even sadder is that I noticed this in an episode of TinTin yesterday. There was a BR44 pulling a passenger loco and it was supposed to be in the UK!
