After selling my childhood layout over twenty years ago, I got back into model railways last year with a Bachmann DCC freight set. Almost one year further on, this has resulted in a modest 3 x 1.5 m layout set in the 1960's somewhere in Yorkshire with the following:
- a class 25 with sound
- a class 08 with lights
- a class 37 with lights
- a standard class 5
- a 'foreign' 45xx with sound
- another sneaky intruder Q1
- a 108 DMU
I have an EZ command with mainly Lenz and Bachmann chips.
Couple of random pics:
Mistakes I made a along the way include the absence of a proper fiddle yard (I was never going to have that much stock - ha!) and lack of point motors (didn't need them as I could reach everywhere - grumble!).
I'm currently in the process of weathering stock. I have had a spell of wargame figure painting many years ago, so I'm not too daunted by this.
My other area of interest is sound, adding chips as budget allows and currently trying to find someone who actually has an ESU loksound programmer in stock. Bit hard to find so it seems.
Finally, I am painting a little army of pewter people, having decided I quite prefer the chunky pewter characters over the flimsy plastic ones. Some loco crews fitted as shown above..
I live in York, where for some unknown reason there does not appear to be a model rail club, which is a shame. And I am a few decades younger than the name lets out to believe

Hi,
Here's an overview shot:
The grey bit by the canal basin is work in progress. The house is not finished yet either - not even sure it wants to stay. And there aren't enough shrubs and trees!

It looks very good and with a real atmosphere. I agree that more flora will make it even better...it is refreshing to be reminded that one can capture the 'feel' of a railway without having to convert the master bedroom into a train room in order to fit 'realism' (several acres of unballasted track) in!
