Railway Modeller October

It has to be said that competition in the magazine market has rattled a few cages.

I had not looked at Railway Modeller for a while.

Having grabbed a copy of the latest edition I must say that its content seems to be more to my taste that previously with several "How to do" features and other articles that are an interesting read.

I am a little biased though as you should all go out and purchase a copy immediately!

There is a 2 page feature by Paul Jones (Warley MRC member and show organiser) on 40 years of the Warley MRC Model Railway Exhibition. This includes several pictures of groups of club members taken 30 or more years ago including one of the first club layout. Many are still members and turn up every week for their regular fix of railway modelling. Sadly a few are no longer with us but their work survives. Railway modelling is clearly good for you though as members still have the youthful cheeky looks of 30 years ago!

I do wonder how WHS tolerate being the worlds largest library?

thank you Paul for that explanation.

it does seem our hobby is over-influenced by commercial issues?

and probably explains why MRJ is not so easy to get hold of?

probably don't want to go down that commercial road, and all that it implies?

I had difficulty finding Hornby magazine in the shops when it first launched until I discovered that a model shop not far from work stocked it. Now I call in there and get it. They do the MRJ as well. So my suggestion is that if you have a model shop within say 10 miles of where you live or work, get it from them. Sure they'll only get a few pennies on each copy but it is profit and you might just buy something else as well.

which is what I do.......and very costly it is too..because each time I go in for my copy...i buy something else as well.....

That's why those nasty manufacturers spend all that money on expensive glossy ads that we see while we're in the shop!

I think they just ignore it, although I have recently been in the Margate store when the manager removed several people who were sitting on the floor reading magazines!
