What is the rarest model railway thing that you can spot for sale?

We will comment on your find!

And conversely have you spotted any model railway items where you feel "rare" has been used inapropriately?

This rarity is unpowered and is bid up to £495 right now! Yes its a BR Class 08! :-

Well there's this for a kick off. I'll leave it to you to decide which category it falls into.....

In fact it's possibly so rare I don't recall seeing another one for over a day.

Often I find the word "Rare" in the title often means it is'nt - just a ploy to trap the unwary.
It is rare that one finds a good deal on eBay when the word 'rare' appears in the title or description.
I have check wrenn on ebay past two months.

It is quite up to £900 for wrenn limited editions locomotives and £1,735 for W2295 Dominion of Canada and £1,010 for W2226M2 City of London five pole version.

Good deals are all relative Doug. Do a search using the word "Rare" and see what come up. Surprisingly few eBay sellers actually use this word in their title and scanning through the list I personally would find it hard to argue with most of what is on offer as "rare".

The Wrenn items and prices thus far quoted are actually good deals if the items are genuine!

Whether an item is genuine is down to trust. Much easier the work out the provenance if you are at a real auction rather than a virtual one. I would guess though that you would have a come back if you were sold a replica.

How about further "rare" spots or otherwise that mean something to you?

If I see either 'Rare', or 'Scarce', on any ad, I ignore .

I do agree that these Wrenn locos may be rare.

I've been doing some Christmas shopping for some Lego for my kids and it is amazing what is classified as 'rare'.

Some of the Lego railway items are certainly scarce - the crocodile for example, but ordinary stuff is certainly not.

Its possibly the packaging that is rare rather than the bricks or components. Stuff from the 1960's is sought after.

Back to the "do I or do I not keep the packaging" conundrum.

In the case of the Wrenn items the packaging can be 50% or more of the value if its a rarish model!
