Big milestone passed this weekend. All the metalwork on the bridge is now completed. It's a case of spending a few hours with a needle file to clean up all the joints, give it a thorough clean before painting. Should have some pics up shortly.

Various wedsite recommend car spray primer as a base coat. Then I'll most likely switch to acrylics for the top coat and weathering. I'll experiment on some bits of scrap brass and see what results i get.

Well, a year into this project and I'm stuck. And oddly enough it's on an area where I never thought I'd have a problem. Simply put, I can't get the hand rails that run down outside of the bridge right. I can't find anything on the market thats right, and all my attemps at making some in brass has been a disaster.

It's all being most frustrating as it's the last bit thats holding up getting the bridge painted.

That's a shame.

Have you considered having a custom brass etch done, or is that just too expensive?

I've considered it, but my local model shop is quoting me 60 quid.

I've just been looking at Jim's New Street bus shelter to see if I can pinch any of his ideas. But it's basically the same construction as I've already tried.

Al, did you check out Evergreen plastics. As far as I can see from the photo the handrails seem to be like U-Channels of which Evergreen has all sorts of. The plates in between seems easy enough.

The bridge got painted in primer yesterday morning and today the two walkways where glued into place. Rail deck and handrails to follow.

I have to say that I was absolutely speechless when I saw that last picture.

I joined the forum back in January this year and picked up on this thread of yours.
My thoughts then were along the lines of "OMG he really is going to build this"

I, like others, have followed the thread and I have to say that I am in awe with what you have achieved.

You are not a modeller sir, you are a modelling engineer.

It's great to see that you have overcome the handrails problem - with the whole structure painted in primer, it really looks the part.

I look forward to seeing the finished layout and hopefully a video of it all in operation.

I was thinking of your bridge yesterday while watching a Cambrian Railways train crossing an O Gauge model of the Barmouth bridge at Warley yesterday.

Unfortunatly I missed Warley this year. I bet that 'O' gauge Barmouth Bridge looked impressive.
