renaming and renumbering hornby A3s

2006 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  tsmig02
HI

I AM ABOUT TO RENUMBER AND RENAME SOME HORNBY A3s THEY ARE ALL THE SUPER DETAIL ONES IN BR GREEN.

CAN ETCHED NUMBER PLATES BE LAID OVER THE EXHISTING ONES OR DO THEY NEED TO BE FITTED SEPARATELY ?

ONE CONVERSION WILL BE HUMOURIST AND I HAVE SOME JACKSON EVANS CORRECT SMOKE DEFLECTORS, BUT ANY IDEA WHERE I

MIGHT GET HOLD OF SOME OF THOSE SMALL ONES THAT WERE FITTED ON SOME A2/2s. PERHAPS I WILL HAVE TO MAKE SOME

PS ANY ADVICE ON THE REMOVAL OF EXHISTING TRANSFERS WOULD BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED

REGARDS

You should be able to carefully fit the new etched plates over the existing ones. As for the small deflectors I have a spare set in my bits box but it just as easy to cut from brass shim.

Removing numbers. Can be a bit tricky - It depends on the loco but I have used meths carfully rubbed on with a cotton bud. If you are very careful you can use a glass fibre pen. Tee Cut is also good for removing such detail.
Probably teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, but before renumbering check other details like tender types - the A3s had an awful lot of detail difference.

Rubbing a toothpick on the numbers was all that was neccessary on a Hornby BR Rebuilt Merchant Navy to remove the required digits.
