Repair/Restore Trix Big Boy

I've come into possession of a Trix 4-8-8-4 Big Boy that someone had tried to modify with little or no success. It came to me with severed wiring between the loco and the tender, a missing draw bar, and probably a number of problems I haven't yet encountered. Cosmetically, it appears to be in good shape, and I can get the motor and drive to run and the wheels to turn.

What I'm really looking for are original parts so I can get it back to like-new condition. Can anyone here help?

Thanks in advance.

The Trix BigBoy is I think now out of production as I haven't seen one in a shop since about 2004. The drawbar should be fairly easy to remanufacture as should the wiring harness between loco and tender. Your best bet is probably to find out who your local Trix importer is and contact them about the availability of parts.

or look at the Marklin big boy and use the marklin parts.

www.marklin-users.net may be able to help if you need a parts list. Someone is bound to have one.

Cheers
Marklin diagrams and part numbers are available at www.maerklin.de. Click on 'Service', then the button in the Suche box, then type in the catalogue numbers. either 37990 or 37991. To the right of the picture of the Big Boy there is a link for 'Details', finally on the next screen click on the 'Ersateile' button (Spare Parts). On the next screen a further button brings up an exploded diagram and a full parts list.

A traffic light system shows whether the parts are in stock at Marklin. If so they can be ordered from any Marklin dealer. Some are better than others, obtaining parts in the UK is very difficult right now, so I find it best to go to German or Austrian dealers. One particularly helpful dealer can be found at www.heiss.co.uk, the owner Manfred Gress has been excellent at obtaining many difficult to obtain spares for me. The tender draw bar (Part No. 216782) is showing as in stock for a mere 99 cents. Good luck and please contact me if I can be of further help.

Regards
Ashley

Thanks very much to you all. I'd hit a dead end, and you've given me some new leads. I'll let you know how it goes.
