Replica Railways 15150 EWS PCVs

Dear all,

I have just come into the possession of a Replica Railways Ltd. Edition of 150 of the two PCVs 93500/93501 (ex 93400/93401) that EWS converted to NAAs for the high-speed parcels/pallet/mail train. Does anyone know more about this, e.g. when it was made, why they decided to make them as L/Es, does anyone else have a set et cetera? I would be grateful for any info.

Regards,

R.B. Morley

Railwayania own the Replica brand and now produce rolling stock on a small scale in both ready to run and kit from from their office in Swindon. There was a time when Replica imported models produced from the former Mainline moulds. When Kadar took over Bachmann they denied Replica access to the moulds so large scale production was halted about 1990.

The Replica owner was a stickler for quality and examined every model received from China before repackaging it! All rejections were sent back and not paid for!

Is there a lesson here?

They are right next door to a slot car stockist called Slot City.

This particular item was produced in both kit form and ready to run in 2003.

They currently do some interesting rolling stock for Southern Railways modellers. Whilst attending toy fairs and having the sales outlet in Swindon, Replica do not have a website.

Railwayania do have a website however.

Why not contact Replica? They are very approachable and will probbaly give you all the info you are after.

Happy modelling

I have one of these sets purchased direct from Railwayania which, if my memory serves me correctly, I ordered at Ally Pally in early 2004.

Looking at my credit card records I paid £68.00 for the set in June 2004. The set is numbered 71/150.

Again, if I remember correctly, I was told that Railwayania produced these models in batches of 50 sets so mine was the 21st set of the second batch. Given the time gap between when I ordered and when I received the set they must have been made in early 2004. So maybe the first batch was made in 2003 - only guessing though!!

More recently I ordered the SR surburban set but had to wait quite some time before I received the set. It was worth the wait though!!

This year I understand that Railwayania are hoping to have a MLV an (ex-SR Motor Luggage Van) on the stand at Ally Pally. This I must have as they used to run down the Folkestone Harbour Branch.........

Not Southern stock, old chap! They were built on the Southern, yes, (Eastleigh on frames laid at Ashford) but they worked as AC EMUs, first from London to Shenfield, then some went up to West Yorkshire. Hunslet-Barclay at Kilmarnock converted the driving vehicles in 1994-1996, nos. 94300/94301 being the first conversions (N.B., the RTC at Derby converted 94300/94301).

The EWS relivery was brought about in 2001 when EWS created a high speed pallet/mail train from Coventry to Scotland. Non-standard 94300 and 94301 were repainted and formed in this train. They were re-numbered 95300 and 95301. They are now out of use.

Hope that helps,

RM

If anyone wants a look at an example, Southampton Model Centre (eBay ID= smctoys) are selling set 74/150 on eBay now. Search for EWS PCV, and it will turn up. If anyone wants to bid (BTW), current price is £21 with no reserve...

Hi, I could not find the original post regarding Replica Railways (Railwayania), whereby '34C' posted a direct link to their reasonably new (2010) web site, but found the above from 2006. I just checked out the Replica Railways site and the complete low profile motorized chassis is illustrated and now available for purchase with two wheel diameters (12 m.m. and 14 m.m. in scale 64 foot chassis, and 12 m.m. dia wheels fitted to a scale 57 foot chassis (to be available in the near future). The MLV hopefully cannot be far behind now as Replica were waiting for a suitable motorized chassis upon which to mount the already available detailed body.

Please see: http://www.replicarailways.co.uk/

The suburbans are of course listed on the site - some of the sets not available at this time, but spare parts to build a complete coach are still available - I purchased four in green and they are very good. Will wait for the Bachmann 2 EPB to be released and see if the Replica suburbans will look acceptable to make a 4 EPB. As suggested previously by others, perhaps Bachmann will produce ready-to-run suburban coaches for the 2 EPB, but it may not be on their list of priorities.
