Roco N gauge couplers

I recently bought a very nice Roco DSG Sleeping Car (I think 2259) but it has a non-standard coupler at both ends, well it's non-standard in terms of my limited knowledge. Is it possible to change them to standard ones?

I would attach a photograph but haven't worked out how to do it yet!

Hello Jeremy,

To attach a photograph first upload it a free image hosting website or your own internet space if you have it, and then to post on the forum copy and paste the full address of the image i.e."http://www.blahblah.com/images/image1.jpg" into your post and between {img} and {/img} except use square brackets instead! e.g.

{img}http://www.blahblah.com/images/image1.jpg{/img} except use [ and ]

Regarding your unidentified couplings - they are either Fleischmann Profi couplings (still in production) or Roco couplings (not produced any more). If your coach is 2259 then it is an early model (1978 - 1984) and won't have NEM sockets which means they'll be slightly more difficult to change - prize the cover off the coupling box, don't loose the very small spring inside and replace with a coupling with the same end. You could of course take the coupling off one end and put it on the end on another coach and keep the pair of coaches coupled - thus you don't need to buy any more couplings!

Hope this helps, but a picture would clear things up! Fleischmann ones are bulkier than Roco I recall.

Hello Godel

Thank you for your reply, if I've followed your instructions properly a photograph of the coupler should appear here:-

Hope it works.

I think you mean (an "img" tag was missing at the front, and there should be no "/url" tag):

It's a bit small! It looks like the Roco coupling to me, in which case either move the other Roco coupling to the end of the adjacent coach or they sometimes come up on www.eBay.de or change to Rapido or Fleischmann.

Is there are a larger version of your picture somewhere since this seems to be just the thumbnail for the picture? You can use the edit button to change your post above or reply to this post to see how the tags should be arranged. Hope this helps!

Let's see if this one is OK!

Perfect! Definitely the out of production Roco coupling.

If anybody has any of these out-of-production Roco couplings that they don't need, I'm certainly interested.
Failing that, does anybody know of a modern in-production equivalent that will work with these old Roco Kurzkupplung?.

Sadly not. The common standard coupling was (and is) the Arnold Rapido, and then manufacturers did their own coupling systems e.g. Fleischmann Profi (still going strong) and Roco, and they're not compatible with each other. I suggest either replacing them, pairing your existing couplings up between coaches and using other types elsewhere, or the long term ebay vigil!

Hope this helps!
