Very nice!

A few ideas there for mine....

Including the bunker "pegs" for the Storm Sheet.

Now were these Tapaulins black?

The outside brake rods are also a possibility.

The fire-irons and Bucket are typical....I must remember to stow them from the Fireman's side as well!

I will need to shorten some I think....The first 2721 I did did have a pricker fitted!

Are the couplings the Bachmann Screw-on type? I have used these a lot....

I am looking at fitting NEM pockets to all my rolling stock eventually, to enable coupling-swapping.

I may have to use modified couplings with a screw though!

The tarps would have weathered down to a dirty grey I guess Sarah, probably fairly quickly too. The couplings were a plug-in I seem to remember. If you are interested, here's the link to the build blog:

Spot on Sarah. Those Dapol [ex-Airfix] are beautifully moulded, very easy to modify and make such a pleasant change from the ubiquitous Hornby and Bachmann railway crew.

The PW figures were one of the last new items (and moulded in "proper plastic, not the usual Airfix "Soapy" stuff!) Airfix produced before they had "problems" and were taken over by Palitoy / Mainline...

There is also the newer Platform figures set, the one that included luggage loaded sack trucks...The original Airfix sets were also not made from the "traditional" figure Soapy plastic....

I did make a 12mm to 1 foot scale model of one span of the Aqueduct out of Card....

Sadly that has gone, with only one (poor) photo taken....not Digital, and in a box somewhere!

Here are some more recent projects....

No prizes for guessing the origin of this BR Mk1 SK....

Re-painted, metal wheels fitted, and a few passengers added...

The interior...

To go with the "Partwork" coach from Hatchette I needed a Brake coach.

This Bachmann BCK was second hand, and needed a buffer and a little TLC...but got a bit more, including a re-worked "cage" in the brake part.
The Brake Van "cage" that was removed was solid! No Daylight could pass through...

Inspiration for the interior of these two coaches comes from the PECO interior kits made for the old Kitmaster Mk1 kits...

The guard is a Tri-ang Railways Driver!

Enhancing the interiors does make a worthwhile difference, especially now with the ability to illuminate the coaches. I have those Peco card kits somewhere- I found them very nice especially the pictures for above the luggage racks

A Happy New Year to all our readers!

My latest build is an old Aifix BR Standard Brake Van. ( I have also finished the Airfix 16 Tom Mineral wagon, and added Brass Torpedo vents to a Parkside SR PMV and Ks SR CCT. The same vents have also been used on the Brake Van...)

All handrails replaced with wire.

New wheels and pin point brass bearings.

Nem pockets fitted with Kadee Nem #18 I think...

Now awaiting paint hardening, then some gloss varnish forthe transfers....then mattish varnish, and a little dirt....it is meant to be vertually brand new!

The Airfix BR Standard Brake Van.

Brass bearings and Hornby Disk wheels fitted.

Nem coulping pockets fitted to Parkside mountings, and Kadee NEM couplings...

Markits Brass Torpedo vents fitted to the roof.

All moulded on handrails replaced with wire.

Plastic glazing added to the cabin ends, duckets glazed with PVA glue...



The axle-boxes needed drilling out slightly to fit the bearings.

Plain (Not Top Hat type) brass bearings were used to get enough clearence for the Hornby Disk Wheels.

The Dapol (Ex Airfix) Mineral Wagon...

Replacement Hornby (or Bachmann?) Disk Wheels in brass bearings.

Brake gear modified to one set of brake shoes and a cross link shaft.

Dapol NEM coupling pockets fitted with Kadee NEM Couplings.

Old Modelmaster transfers...

Now finished.

The supplied plastic load has had a metal washer glued on underneath, so can be easily removed with a magnet-on-a-stick...

The doors will open, for posing in the coal yard siding!

Together with the Airfix BR Standard Brake Van...

A Hornby DCC Fitted (Hornby 4-pin decoder) LMS 3f "Jinty" converted to the Midland Railway 1F 0-6-0T using the Crownline conversion kit, which was designed to fit the earlier "Front Wheel Drive" "Jinty" chassis.

Some slight modification to some kit parts, mainly the cab floor, were needed!

Almsost Finished!

Still needs the Sandbox filler in the side tanks filled....and BR Early Emblems!

In the period represented by Ffrwd Locks, this Mineral Wagon is still pretty much brand new!

I have fitted the NEM coupling mountings to the Airfix Cattle Wagon and Meat Van Chassis....some paint now required.

Over the last few days, the 1F has had the sandbox filler fiillled and painted, and small Early Emblem HMRS Transfers added....next is a coat of matt varnish....

All that is really needed now is a smolebox number plate, fire irons, and a loco crew!

The "storm sheet" has been made from the foil from a wine bottle cork cover! Inspired ny Iain Rice (Detailing RTR locos book. He used toothpaste tube (metal)...but that is now scarce....

The retaining ropes are sewing cotton....

BR Early Emblems from HMRS BR Loco & Coach presfix sheet...I had to resist putting the bigger versions on!
