SCARM layout software

Hello dear friends,

I want to introduce my freeware layout design program, called SCARM, which you can download and test from www.scarm.info. After the last major update, SCARM is able to print the track plan and now it has more than 40 track libraries included.

Because SCARM is still under development, I collect any ideas about new functionality or improving the existing features. I will appreciate any comments concerning SCARM here or by email - scarm at scarm dot info.

I was not sure where to post this topic, so I do it here - please excuse me if this is not the correct place or if I'm violating some of the forum rules.

Mixy,

hi nick i've tried that,i think.downloaded version 0.7.2 but it shows 900kb not 1600 kb in your screenshot.it even goes as far as saying extracting to archives but no luck.no idea what i'm doing wrong.

cheers

alan
Hadn't thought of that.will try and let you know.

hi nick, tried again and still the same result.i've given up now.don't really need now as i've done my layout.just thought it would be nice to try it for possible later changes.

Thanks guys,I'll try that although when the extracting box came up it disappeared straight away and the only place I can find it on my computer using the search function is downloads, filesize 900kb.

Hi Stephen

hi again stephen,i'm on my computer now and have just looked again and have found it.the file just said scarm.basically it's my fault.there must have been two entries because the one i quoted to nick sais scarm v 0.7.2 which was the one i deleted.i didn't even think to look elsewhere in downloads and it didn't show up on search.anyway sorted now and thanks again to you all.

hi mixy

is there a facility to "cut" flexible track so as to copy my layout exactly for scenic purposes?

hi again mixy

i am having problems rotating track sections.would it not be easier to just have a rotate(left or right) button.

cheers

alan
hi mixy

i must be a complete idiot but i can't get pieces to rotate.it took me 15 mins to find out how to change start point direction.it took me an hour to do the baseboard because line skept joining up for no reason. please can you give an idiots step by step giude to rotating track pieces.

cheers

alan
hi mixy

thanks for getting back to me so soon.i have done it now.i don't want to sound ungrateful for what is a good program but i still think a rotate button would be quicker and easier to use.like in a photo program.i hope you take this as a constructive criticism,it's just my opinion for what it's worth.

many thanks

QUOTE (Mike Buckner @ 20 Apr 2011, 11:06) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Step 1. Idiot clicks on the red triangle in the tool bar
Step 2. Idiot clicks on the work surface, BUT DOES NOT LET GO OF THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON.
Step 3. A circle and line appear, surrounding the red triangle.
Step 4. Still holding down the left mouse button. Idiot moves the mouse around in a large circle round the triangle.
As he does this, the black line moves round with him, and at the bottom left of the window it tells him the current angle in degrees.
Step 5. When Idiot is satisfied with the angle, he lets go of the left mouse button.
Step 6. If Idiot has let go too soon of the left mouse button, then start again and click on the red triangle in the tool bar
Step 7. To set the angle of a new track, simply click on the track piece from the keft-hand track list and it is placed on the layout at the angle of the red triangle
Step 8. To change the angle of an existing track, Idiot selects the track, and it changes colour to red.
Step 9. With the mouse pointer hovering over the selected track, RIGHT-click the mouse and a menu appears containing "Move".
If you can't see "Move", then the mouse pointer wasn't directly over the track. Move the mouse and right click again until you see "Move"
Step 10. Idiot Clicks on "Move"
Step 11. Idiot moves the track until one end joins up with the red triangle.
Step 12. Idiot clicks the left button, and the track now rotates to the desired angle.
Step 13. If necessary, Idiot moves the now-rotated track to another position, starting as per step 9.

Having mastered these skills, Idiot is promoted - to Competent Idiotit must be so nice to be perfect.
