Hello again,

The new version 0.8.0 of SCARM is ready

Most important new features are standalone installer, support for turntables and baseboard editing. There are also many corrected and updated libraries, due to some errors like doubled track names, doubled item numbers and some new parts. If you are using a turntable that is missing from SCARM library files, let me know and I will add it in the next update.

Thank you, Tony

Check FAQ section in documentation for details about working with SCARM, or just ask here if you have a question that is not mentioned there.

Hi

slightly off topic and I am not suggesting there is anything wrong with this software.

The point I wish to make to people here is that, scanning a piece of software that has not been on general release will never be found by antivirus programmes, because they work on the basis of signitures and if someone writes something unique the antivirus will not have a signature for the malware.

Again to be clear I am not suggesting for one second there is anything wrong with this software, I just wanted to point out a common misconception that a negative result from an antivirus tool means its ok, it does not mean there is no malware only that it has none the antivirus can recognise. Be careful what you download.

Because this directly involves me, I must say the following:

SCARM was released almost one year ago and has more than 3500 downloads up to now. If there were something suspicious with it, all major antivirus software would report it already.
Actually, everybody can send SCARM files to any antivirus laboratory such as Norton, Panda or Kaspersky, where the engineers will check them and examine SCARM machine code for any dangerous activity. This is the way in which antivirus signatures are created.

If somebody thinks that I am spending my free time to make some unique viruses, especially targeting railway modelers, please do not download and use my program.

Hi

Actually I specifically said twice this was not about your software!!!!!!! so it did not directly or indirectly involve you, other tan it happened to occur in a thread in which you were the OP.

What I was commenting on was other contributers comments that because they have antivirus software they are ok. It is something I hear every day at work and something we pay 10's of thousands of pounds in Security awareness programmes to try and correct.
In this cast the advice was for free and stands.

Please do not be so precious, it really isn't necessary.

Mixy, Well done on the new version
The turntables are great! and the installer works a treat!!!

For fear of throwing more work at you, I have a suggestion for a future release? The baseboard editing is very, very handy, and it works exceptionally well. Perhaps later on is it possible to look at a "grid snap" option? Where the user can choose a resolution to snap to (e.g 1cm, 5cm, 10cm etc)

Still have to think of a better name for the software. Perhaps open it up to the membership. Best name gets a free copy of SCARM !

Don't forget to get over to http://www.nscale.net/forums and promote it!

Thank you, Stephen,

I will think about "snap-to-grid" option, but I cannot promise it, because it will be difficult to be realized.
Everybody can suggest a new name for SCARM or can vote for keeping the current name if likes it.
The promotion in nscale.net is done

Just to anyone else like me who was a little skeptical in downloading and using this, in less 30 seconds I had it downloaded. installed and had plonked a turntable and viewed it in 3D.

What a remarkable, yet simple piece of software, very easy to use

I shall enjoy playing with this (shame there isn't any OO 90 degree straight crossings
)

What about a Print to Scale option? Although I haven't exactly evaluated it that much yet but would be good

As for new names (MRD - Mixy Rail Design / Model Rail Design)

Thank you

Hi all
I have used this product and can thoroughly reccomend it, I know we are all supposed to be 'metricated' but it's all greek to me,
so if there was a possibility a (say FUNCTION) button to swap scales to x reference it would be great !
as for a name change ??

Thank you all

I am really happy, that you like my software

@preston: You can switch to inches as measurement unit in SCARM - just click on upper left corner, where mm is displayed and select "inches" in the appeared Settings dialog box.

Hello Dave,

When you start the program with blank trackplan, press any of the track selection buttons and the given track will appear in the center of the plot with no need of placing the Start point. Next tracks will be connected to each other. Please be aware that SCARM does not support "drag-and-drop" of the tracks for now, but it is possible such functionality to be implemented in the future.

Hello Dave,

In SCARM, tracks are glued by default. If you want to move the track, select it, hold Ctrl key and then drag it with the mouse. Or use Move command from context menu.
See also this clip:
- it will help you to get started with SCARM.

I had been planning to try SCARM for a while, but I've only just got around to it. It looks fantastic
, but there's a big problem for me
: it doesn't include Peco N-gauge Finescale (code 55) track. Any chance of adding another library?
