Hello Graham,

You need to create your baseboard in SCARM in the following way, starting from the red dot:

This will produce the baseboard with a "hole" in the middle:

Hope this will help

Hello Davo,

1) You can start with a simple rectangular, L-shaped or U-shaped baseboard and then edit it by dragging the corner points, adding new points or deleting existing points until you reach the desired shape and dimensions. If you have better ideas, please share them here.
2) You are the second user after 50000+ downloads of SCARM who complain of the rulers step in Imperial system. However, you are right that 5" step is (may be) not very useful, so I will consider adding of some option for user-selectable grid step or coloring the grid as you suggests

3) Just press F1 - the documentation is installed locally and there is no need of Internet connection to view it. About missing of context-sensitive help - yes, this is a defect, but maintaining and updating of context-sensitive documentation in 15+ languages is difficult for a single person.
4) May be this is true for you, but not for many of the other SCARM users. I am always trying to take into account every user opinion and to make SCARM better in the time, so thank you for your notes - they are important and I will try to improve the program with the every next version

Thank you all, for the good words

I was not able to write in the forum for a long time, because I was helping at home to my wife, carrying for our newborn. But now the things are going back to normal
and I have little more free time. So I decided to use it in collecting all useful information about SCARM that is not described in the documentation in a recently launched SCARM Blog - dedicated site, which will unify together all knowledge and interesting stuff about the program. In the blog you will find news & updates, tips & tricks, tutorials & examples, videos & clips and everything else, related to SCARM and intended to help you in your work with the program. The first articles are already published and more will come soon. See them and say your opinion

Meanwhile, SCARM reached v. 0.9.17 and I am continuing to work over it. Many new features will appear in the next versions and I hope that you will enjoy them

Hello all

The new version 0.9.18 of SCARM is ready and published on www.scarm.info

It contains many improvements and updates, together with some important bugfixes. See the list with the most important changes in this version in the following SCARM Blog post - www.scarm.info/blog/general/scarm-0-9-18-released

This version should also fix one major issue - empty snapshots in 3D viewing mode, seen on some PCs. If some of you have met with this problem, please update SCARM, make several 3D snapshot images and report the status of the problem - solved or still existing.

SCARM is extensively tested on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 in all 32- and 64-bit versions. However, I am unable to perform full tests on Windows 8. If you have PC, running under Windows 8, please install SCARM on it and tell me how it works.

I am continuing the development of SCARM and the next version is planned to appear in much shorter period than last one

Mixy

P.S. If "Check for Updates" feature in SCARM 0.9.17 reports that there is no newer version of the program, download the installer directly from the website. The old version info file may be cached on your PC and it will need some time that cache to expire.

QUOTE (jukebox @ 31 Jan 2013, 13:28) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi Mixy;

Is there a simple way to "select all" elevations and adjust them all by the same amount with the scroll wheel of your mouse?

I have a large layout plan that I "zero" at an arbitary point, and now it would be handy to raise that "zero point" to represent the elevation off the floor - but I can't see a way to do that without having to adjust hundred of pieces of track!

Thanks

Scott

Hi Scott,

Not quite sure that the task can be performed in simple steps in the current version, but I will try to help you

Check these posts in the SCARM Blog:

Baseboard/Workbench Support Structure For Your SCARM Layout (see the pictures inside - is this what you are trying to do?)
How To Create Tunnel Under The Base Level

The articles are explaining how to work with the elevations in SCARM and you may find them useful. Something, that is not mentioned there is a feature of SCARM to move selected tracks up or down in height by preserving already set inclines in the selected track route - just hold Alt key while adjusting selected track height. If you want to lift up all the tracks, use Edit > Select All command before applying the trick with Alt key. However, this is working only for the tracks. For the figures and objects you will need to select them one by one and to adjust "Vertical position" in Properties window for each. If you select them all and change the position, all of them will become in the same base height. Depending on how big is your layout, this can be easy, but it also may be very difficult. I will consider adding some function to "lift up" or "take down" every item in the selection in a simple step, but this will come in the future versions of SCARM

Thank you, guys

I decided to play with the figures and to see what can be done about simple bridges in SCARM... not much, but some ideas flashed across my mind and I wrote a blog article about Custom bridge pillars and railings in SCARM. Here is the featured bridge:

I hope that this may help and inspire you too

QUOTE (chris j @ 31 Mar 2013, 10:56) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Just had a look at some of the sample bridges in your blog.
I don't think I'd have the skill or patience to create anything like them.
Hope you don't mind if I 'borrow' them to use in a layout design some time.
Of course, it is OK for everybody to use all provided materials on SCARM website and SCARM blog

QUOTE (chris j @ 31 Mar 2013, 10:56) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Have you thought of creating a library of objects to use from some of the objects you (and maybe others) have created? Either as separate files like your bridge examples that could be copied and pasted, or even better included as part of the main program.
Yes, I am now researching the possibilities and user-defined libraries of objects will appear in some of the next versions of SCARM

QUOTE (PAPPA.B @ 1 Apr 2013, 18:00) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi I've been using Scarm for a little while and slowly getting the hang of it. Now looking to add some turntables but i can't seem to find them not sure what version i have having only recently downloaded i would think i have near enough the latest! Any help much appreciated. Jim
Ian already explained, so I will only say, that turntables can be found on the bottom of most libraries - you need to scroll the tracks in the selection panel and search for a turntable in the selected library. If you thing that there is missing part, let me know the producer and part number to check it and to fulfill the lib

It seems that other users are also sometimes confused by missing or misplaced tracks in SCARM libraries. Note that all tracks are listed in the library (or track system) following the order in which the producers are listed them in their catalogs or web sites. If you are unable to find particular track, check for it in the other libraries in the same scale of the given producer. Of course, there is always a chance that some track is not included in the lib. In such case, just let me know and I will try to add the missing part for the next update

And now something more useful - I posted a new article in the blog, introducing several very small HO track plans, send to me by Petar Ploskov. If you have no room for a big layout, check it: SCARM Track Plans of Micro Sized HO-scale Layouts. Of course, there are more suitable scales for small spaces like TT (my favorite
), N and Z, but HO still remains the most popular worldwide, so let it be…

Good to see that you like SCARM

And here is it - the new SCARM version 0.9.19, ready for download from www.scarm.info

It contains many improvements and new features, together with some bugfixes. See the list with the most important changes and the new and updated libraries in the following article - www.scarm.info/blog/general/scarm-v-0-9-19-released.

One new key feature is the ability to set user-defined joining tolerances and global minimum radius for all flex-tracks - see the new "Edit" tab in the Settings window. Also, all placed flex-tracks now are showing the dimensions of their sections and can be modified and divided after laying.

I hope that you will like the new release
I already started to work over the next one

Mixy

P.S. If "Check for Updates" feature in SCARM 0.9.18 reports that there is no newer version of the program, download the installer directly from the website. The old version info file may be cached on your PC and it will need some time that cache to expire. If the website also shows v. 0.9.18, press F5 key to refresh it.

IMPORTANT - a new bug-fix update SCARM v. 0.9.20 was released today. Download it from www.scarm.info and install it in order to patch the old version of the program.

The latest version fixes two critical bugs, found in v.0.9.19.

The first issue is connected with the procedure for removing doubled control points in the baseboard and the figures, which can cause problems with shapes, containing holes inside. This should be now fixed and the holes will not be affected as before.

The second bug is related to the flex-tracks and user-defined minimum radius in the settings, introduced in v. 0.9.19. It may cause previously saved project files, containing flex-tracks to be loaded incorrectly, with flex-sections disconnected and/or reshaped to the bigger user-defined minimum radius. The issue also affects copy/paste of these flex-tracks. This is now solved and the user setting will not interfere with the flex-tracks already placed, saved or copied and pasted from the clipboard anymore.

I am really sorry if these errors are caused you troubles in your work with SCARM. I cannot guarantee that something like this will not happen again, but I can promise that my reaction to the tracked problems will be as fast as possible. Always report possible bugs in the SCARM Blog or by SCARM e-mail and I will check the potential problem and will make the necessary fixes and changes in the program code.

See the list with all changes and fixes in this version in the following SCARM Blog post - http://www.scarm.info/blog/general/scarm-v...-bug-fix-update.

I hope that you will like the new release and will forgive me for the eventual problems with the previous version of SCARM

Mixy

P.S. If "Check for Updates" feature in SCARM 0.9.19 reports that there is no newer version of the program, download the installer directly from the website. The old version info file may be cached on your PC and it will need some time that cache to expire. If the website also shows v. 0.9.19, press F5 key to refresh it.

Hello Grifter_Guru,

Yes, there is a chance for gantry signals. However, there are so many possible combinations and SCARM is not able to deal with all of them at the moment. But if you provide me with some links of these, produced as a range from any producer in any scale, I will be able to see which are most used and will probably start with them

Important information about Atlas HO code 100 Snap Track library in SCARM!

It seems that the specifications of Atlas HO code 100 Snap Track turnouts in the official catalog are mismatched. See more about the issue here: Potential Problems With Atlas HO Code 100 Snap-Track Turnouts.

You can download the updated Atlas-HO-100 SCARM track library from the links in the blog article and use it for planning with Atlas HO Snap Tracks as described. The updated library will be included in the upcoming version of SCARM.

Hello again

The new SCARM v. 0.9.21 is ready and published on http://www.scarm.info.

It comes with new features, new and updated track libraries (including Atlas-HO-100, mentioned in my previous post), some bugfixes and many improvements. The most important new feature is flexitrack automatic point-to-snap-and-join function with auto shaping of the curved sections.

See more about this update in the SCARM Blog post SCARM v. 0.9.21 Released. There is also a short demo clip, showing how fast and easy is now the flex-track joining to the other tracks on the layout.

I hope that you will like the new version of SCARM and also hope that next one will come soon

Last week, I posted an article in SCARM Blog about Useful Stuff In Various SCARM Libraries, like platforms, level crossings, signals and more ready-to-use 3D objects.

If you use some of these in SCARM and they do not appear on the drawing plot, you need to check the Accessories view setting. Open "Tools" > "Settings" > "2D View" > "Tracks" and place a check mark on Accessories field if there is no one.

Hello Djfix

1) Layers are not yet implemented, but I have this already in my To-do list and such feature will appear in some of the next versions of SCARM.

2) What kind of diagram do you need? Is this some Peco turnout diagram from their site or something else, like Hornby Set-track diagram below?
