Some very nice prints there Doug. I particularly liked the one of the A4 on the Forth Bridge. I will have to convince my wife we need a large one of those.

I've only reached page 150 of over 300 pages of railway posters at 8 to a page. There is something for everybody here; plenty of iconic posters; artwork by highly regarded artists such as Cuneo and Shepherd (sp?).

There are also useful snippets of historical information on "service posters", particularly the times for some well known trains such as "The Queen of Scots".

They're not all old posters - there's a poster Cuneo did for Eurotunnel, it must have been one of his last. There are also some continental posters. LNER and Southern fans seem to be best served, but there's a really nice looking recent(ish) poster for the Settle & Carlisle line.

Some posters make you realise how much times have changed such as the "Bikes go free" scheme from circa 1980. You can't get bicycles onto many trains these days

I look forward to browsing the other half of the collection tomorrow evening.

It's probably just as well my layout is in the loft so I can't hang posters from the walls, otherwise I might end up broke....

Thoroughly recommended,

David

Only broke David? You're really not trying hard enough!

Well, I've now looked through the entire "Transport - rail" section which includes photographs as well as some of the posters. It is quite an eclectic mix with railways from all parts of the World represented even if South America only has a couple. So that means there are photos of Garrets in South Africa, Kenya and Australia in among the inevitable "Flying Scotsman" photos.

Given the "steeple cab" fan club among the Forum membership, I recommend a search using "Electric" and you should turn up some early 20th century photos of a North Eastern Bo-Bo and a L & Y equivalent.

I wonder is there a bounty for spotting that two photos have their captions transposed?

There are some interesting photos in the collection and the search engine appears to go through all the text, not just the titles.

David
