As I'm off to Ayr this morning to the Citadel Centre, I began thinking that there are no real threads to discuss the Scottish Exhibitions. With the exhibition season starting up I think it might be good for our other members, not of Scotland, to see what goes on at these events.

There are a few I plan to visit such as Greenock, Cathcart, Falkirk etc, and of course the big one in Feb - Model Rail Scotland. Although the Falkirk one is my birthday weekend where the wife and I usually go to York. Where I usually visit the NRM. Can't be in two places at once
. Or maybe I can,
If members who go to these events use this thread to post pics, of what they find interesting.

Barring accidents, unforeseen circumstances, or all out nuclear war, I will start the ball rolling today by posting a few pics of my visit today. If anyone else is there, feel free to add your pics, or if you see a speccy, chubby guy taking pics with an iPhone, (Narrows it down a bit, much?
)
don't be afraid to step up and say "hello".

Well off I went to The Citadel Centre In Ayr yesterday. I persuaded the wife to come in but as there was a distinct lack of other females, she decided to find the nearest shopping mall in Ayr and promptly left me to my own devices.

It has been a few years since i had been there but I distinctly remember 2 halls being used and even the foyer had a layout. This time the whole thing was contained within the main hall, 13 layouts all of which I thought to be of very good standard and a couple stood out only slightly from the rest.

See what you think

Darjeely

Anvilton

A Couple for Dave Saunby

The next couple of pics don't do this layout justice.
Phoenix Fruit Express

St. Morten (notice the the coincidental name from the Greenock MRG)

I think the next one was my favourite!

Although, I really liked this one too

Dunwoody Halt

I'm sorry I can't remember all of the names to go with the pics but I hope you enjoy the little glimpse of the Ayr show. If anyone else was there and took pics please feel free to post them. The next exhibition is at Greenock On the 19th and 20th of October.

Yes very nice show, but a few of the layouts are quite well known on the Scottish scene , so if you going to these venues your bound to see one or 2 again. You forgot Bonnybridge by the way ! October is a great month for exhibitions. Dundee also on but I don't go anymore since they transferred it to the Sports hall out of town. Used to enjoy the train ride to it

Well here we go again, even though I felt a bit under the weather I was looking forward to going to Greenock today to the Lyle Kirk and the Greenock MRC exhibition. So armed with paracetamol, Ibuprofen and Sudafed off I went the 17 and a bit mile journey to this event. I actually love the drive out there as the views are stunning all the way down the Clyde and Greenock has a very dynamic landscape. With the weather forecast predicting precipitation I am pleased to announce that for once, it wasn't raining in Greenock and the views were great.

Anyway onto the exhibition, It was a small affair but was very well organised and being in the Kirk seemed to give an atmosphere conducive to the event. The main thing, by which I gauge a lot of these exhibitions, was the friendliness of the operators and tradesmen. This scored very highly today. Everyone I spoke to or asked questions of gave a good response and there were none of those looks of disdain or "oh sorry, are you speaking to me!"

The layouts themselves were of good standard, little bits stood out here and there for me. But I think this is a very subjective issue, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder and while I may love something it may not be someone else's cup of tea. so I won't make any judgements or reviews on the layouts. I enjoyed the whole experience today. Well done Greenock MRC

Here are the pics. I took some notes but I wanted to enjoy my time so my notes are not extensive.

The Venue

Craiglang

The Scottish amoung us will know this a nod to "Jack and Victor" from a tv programme called "Still Game"

Hunterston

Mortonhall Road Coal Depot

An A4 Streaking round a Hornby Dublo Set

Two untitled Micro layouts

Fastleigh

Papagei Stadt

Nice mood lighting in the sky.

Castle Loch
by Kyle MRC

Another Micro layout

Tamar Lane

West of Scotland MRG

Nitshead

And finally this micro layout "Nitshead" which is quite funny as it's meant to be a portmanteau for "Barrhead" and "Nitshill", two areas nearby. However the funny thing is that "Nits" is a scottish word for headlice.

But this is Ross one of the organisers who was extremely friendly and answered a lot of my nosey questions and we had a nice discussion about the "Strathclyde Liveried 107 in the picture, as these kind of DMU's 101's,107's, and 303's were the mainstay for the West of Scotland network.

So very well done to Ross and his pals! I had an excellent afternoon.

A bit too far north for me mate, I'm only covering west and central, At the beginning of this thread I invited others to join in, so if your in the region you're more than welcome to post a review and pics to let us see what's going on. That would be great.

You must have been visiting around the same time as me 12.30 to around 2.30.a small show but have to agree a particularly friendly one. Enjoyed catching up with Andy, John and Ross from Greenock MRC and the guys from Ayr who took time to explain sound on their Hunterston layout-

Really well done guys

Thanks for the photos Alan,

The last Scottish exhibitions I went to were the big MRSS Glasgow shows in the late 70s when they were at the McLellan Galleries in Sauciehall Street, I usually timed my visits to the Glasgow Subway reconstruction works with this exhibition.

As an exiled Aberdonian I would love to exhibit one (or both) of my micros at the Aberdeen show, but I can imagine the expenses claim! At least my car (Toyota Avensis 2.2 diesel) reaches the border from Suffolk on a half-tank!!!

Dream on Dave!!

You could always contact and ask! You don't ask you don't get! Give it a try, they can only say no! Or contact Model rail Scotland, They've got lots of money, but they probably also have lots of requests.
