Just curious to know if anyone else runs seuthe smoke without a resistor on OO gauge. Currently using a ECOS controller and they smoke perfectly without any issues, prior to this I used a ZTC unit, again without any problems from not fitting resistors. I have never lost a chip or loco this way and the level of smoke is really good. On a loco that I purchased from eBay with two decoders, one in tender to control sound and one in loco for functions the seuthe unit has a resistor fitted and is the poorest smoke maker of the lot.

As I say, just curious to hear others thoughts and feelings.

I recently fitted a smoke unit to an old Airfix loco N7, and found that the unit was running way to hot and making the chimney of this loco go soft when it was operating, after some consultation in this forum, I fitted a resistor that lowered the voltage to the smoke unit by 2v although the chimney still gets warm, it stays solid, and still smokes well, there is a thread called "Velux & smoke" which tackled this.
