I use MSL mostly, who used to be very competitive with freight charges. But they have been quietly and regularly increasing them. A small order of three carriages or one loco is about €26. It goes up to about €30, with anything else added. Kramm charges a flat €35, as a lot of others do.
These figures are probably representative of most suppliers. Seyfried charges €43, with €46 is about the highest that I've encountered.

So, ordering from MSL adds about €9 to the cost of an individual carriage; however I don't pay the 19% VAT either, so there's a balance there somewhere. MSL however, are far and away, the best for packaging goods securely. They pack using two cartons now. I've never had any problems with damaged packaging or items from them.

Customs duty is a 4% charge on deliveries of over AUD1000 value.

I think €280 is the magic figure. This gives me a shipped order with european list prices of about €300. An order of this value comes in around AUD400; depending on exchange rates.

After seven years of kicking myself for not having bought this when it first came out and years of searching, I've finally obtained the magnificent Roco Nord Pacific.
I've spent a few hours putting back all the detail parts pulled off by Roco's ludicrous open foam packaging insert,(why don't they use the the Fleischmann plastic
wraparound cassette system??) and put a decoder in it. It's running was a bit hesitant so I cleaned the wheels - and I was amazed how much gunk had accumulated on them for a model that looks as good as new. I don't buy many second-hand locos so that was an eye-opener as to how dirty the wheels can get.
