That is simply gorgeous! That really makes me envious! I have the older non sound version as number 7402 Mainz, I can't really justify such a loco on my little branch but, . . . . it would be nice!

Hello, haven't been on this thread for a few weeks but that doesn't mean I've been sitting around idly, not spending my hard-earned rhino....My laptop is in the hands of the manufacturer having suffered a 'catastrophic motherboard failure' and I'm finding it irksome posting photos from the IPad so here's a list to bore you with: I've been carrying on my love affair with the Era III F-Zuge and I was lucky enough to have the funds to snap up some great stuff from E-bay(thank you trusty Mondeo for sailing through the MOT) Here go's;
Trix 23347 'Domspatz' set - 3 lovely tinplate coaches, I really like the glossier sheen of the finish, makes a nice contrast to all the other matt paint finishes. The only slight disappointment is the close coupling isn't, er, very close....
Trix 21261 and Marklin 43219 'Loreley Express' set - 4 Trix and 2 Marklin skirted coaches make a beautiful rake. They couple closer than kissin' cousins, the silver roofs have a light overspray which I assume is meant to represent smoke/dirt deposits from the hauling dampfloks??
Front-end power:
Trix 22950 BR03 03 244 - engine drive, great sound, slightly flaky pick-up at low speeds over one of my curved points, so run it at 120 kph as intended....
Roco 72208 BR03.10 03 1021 - speechless on this one, I'm a lucky boy. Think I'll treat the Mondeo to a wash and wax...
Now spending some happy interweb time tracking down the coach numbers which is starting to become a bit of an obsession in itself.

Lovely loco! I have the same sentiment as you, if I can be of help in anyway, please let me know, Fzug are one of my passions too. Piko are offering some more classic coaches this year

Reddo, ongoing with the motherboard and the manufacturer, fingers crossed for a cashless resolution....the Lorelei set is a beaut, I really would like the Trix Merkur set but that's going for high prices at the moment.
John, I think I saw the HO Flying Scotsman at Warley many years ago. I believe it was a Korean brass job with two tenders, so dinky in size that I thought it was TT gauge! A few years ago there was a plan touted for Mallard to visit Germany to celebrate some form of railway anniversary and I was convinced Fleischmann et al would knock out an HO Mallard to take advantage - after all, it's a relatively simple moulding with none of that infernal external pipe work that graces Continental locos and the valve gear hidden under the streamlining - but the plan was canned, probably due to the economic recession(2008/9?)
David, thanks for the video link, your excellent postings on MRF and other forums is one of the main reasons I'm so fascinated by this era! I have been using the DBTrains website to gain initial info on coach serial numbers, but of course I'm hampered by my lack of German in doing more thorough investigation.

Both the locos and the coach sets are running around my train set as I type this and it's a wonderful sight - I should be in bed but I can't resist it - time to crack open the 'Blauer Enzian'!

I've always fancied an all singing, all dancing model and with the advent of the ESU Engineering Edition range it became a question of which one would most blend with the eclectic mix I have now. I settled on the BR 265 in Voith livery because:
* It has digital controlled couplings at each end.
* The prototype is an uprated version of the BR 261 suitable for trip working on the main line.
* As it belongs to the manufacturer it gets rented out and so it is reasonable for it to appear in any region - in Germany at any rate.

The models arrived in the stores in mid December and after Christmas I found that I could afford one. So here it is:



The figure on the front is a "mini me" but hopefully it is blurred and badly painted enough for no-one to be able to recognise me . It's OO scale which gives you an idea of just how big the prototype must be.

I haven't tried the smoke function as you don't get any distillate in the box and I didn't think to order any. It's also possible it cannot be shipped internationally.

It's a heavy loco and it can haul my CMX machine up the gradients on my layout which is what I've bought it for.

The auto uncoupling works well and the wheel squeal on tight radius curves detects kinks in my track laying .

The light setting in the photo is "Shunting mode" - hence the orange highlights at the corner steps.

The manual is German only so I've spent some time with Google translate, particularly with the warning section. Most of that is related to the smoke distillate.

That is wonderful! What a good choice too, that's exactly the reasoning I used with my Voith Maxima!
I am currently doing some ebaying of my own as I want one of these, possibly a Northrail one as my 'modern image' stuff is based around the Hamburg area.
A good friend of mine has several of these wonderful ESU models and says that unless your loco is definitely going to spend it's life on your layout, never being picked up, moved to run on a friends layout or at exhibition - only then should you use the smoke facility!
You don't want to run the risk of the smoke oil running out of the reservoir which will damage the circuit board as this would mean a trip back to the factory! He has learnt this the hard way! By the way, his Ludmilla weighs an absolute ton and is so incredibly loud, the sound is turned waaay down and is still loud!
