Hi Babs,
Good for you! That is a beautiful looking loco and if it runs like my Trix P10, it will be very, very powerful indeed! I really should consider getting one myself but they are a bit big for a little branch line (as is the P10!).
Anyway, I believe they were designed as a heavy freight loco, they later became the class BR58.0 and BR58.10-21.
There is a German Wikipedia page here: Wiki
I am sadly lacking in books about the Prussian railways themselves but in later years, certainly the East Germans would use anything on local passenger trains, I've certainly seen the rebuilt 58.30 on passengers, can't swear about the original series though.
Rule 1 (it's your railway!) applies here, I suspect.
All I would say is that it's not really suitable for running an express train as the real thing had a top speed of 65Kmh! But, I bet it could easily pull the heaviest express complete with a failed express loco!
Cheers,
John.

Hi Babz and friends,
It is a nice looking model, but either way, by the mid1930's all the class looked something like this....

While this picture is a Roco model (still nice looking btw) of one of the class (58 1919) that made it to DB, but they were all withdrawn from DB by around1953/5. As John says, on the DR they survived much longer, into the 80's I think.

Eisenbahn Journal have done two specials on Br 58, released in 1982 and re-written in the 2000s. I would send you the pdf of the 1982 version, but it's 20MB and my PC would freak.
In this mag there are pictures of Br 58 with typical 4-car double decker sets of the DR and many other surprising sets of stock.
There are also pics of several locos around the time of this Trix release, both ex-works and in service. I can't exactly make out the number/shed on the Trix ad - is it 5542 or 5562? But you should probably have a rake of covered vans like G10 with and without brake cabins (which would loo very nice), or loaded coal or ore open wagons like Om21.
Don't know if this helps, but it is what it is....
Cheers,

Hi all,
Nobody posted here for a while, so here a couple of recent acquisitions

So pleased to be able to pick this up (pre-loved) from a UK dealer, great little loco, great details, Trix 22565. OK so the curtains on the cab side hide motors and electrics, and I need a bit of red texter on the axles, wow is all I can say.
Of course, though, you can never have enough covered wagons so this also recently arrived, Brawa 47254

Hope to post some more soon....

Hi Babs, 6991 & All,
Lovely locos! Babs, I'm sure your bigger loco runs and sounds wonderful but I believe it to be a 52.80 - an east German Reko 52!
The Mallet is sublime as is 6991's lovely little tank above!
Meanwhile, I was going to keep quiet about this but I can't help myself!

The pair (66115 & 66117) of kits to make Hamburg's Dammtor station!
I had a bequest from a favourite aunt and I wanted something special to remember her by. For ages I agonised over what to get, an ESU T16 (BR94) was coming high up my list of choices and then I found this!
I had fallen in love with this place on my first visit some four or five years ago now and had kept my eyes peeled ever since my mate told me that Trix had done a model of it. Without an unexpected lump sum, it would have been impossible though.
Now, to build it!
Cheers,
John.

Hi, it's second hand, Roco.
Not brave, but maybe stupid. The only gauge I could afford to run outdoors and it has to be outdoors for me to avoid the" train chasing its tail" look. My trains will be run. They're not to sit in a box.
I'm looking for locos/ trains that look "interesting" rather than modelling a specific time and place. I do have a oo gauge W&M speed whiskers railcar as well.
Suggestions for interesting locos welcome. Even really ugly ones
Thanks Mark

Hi Babs,
No worries, it's easily done!
That is a beauty, I love it. I have 58 3021 (no sound) and she is one of my all time favourites, holding my record slow speed trial - 3 minutes for one inch!
Mark, that's a great way to start, one of my favourite diesels!
Cheers,
John.
