Hi,

Their website isn't the best in the world to navigate around on; it needs to be redone properly. I suggest looking at one of the major German online shops like Modellbahnshop-lippe etc, you get a better overview of their products. When they make a release most of the time there is generally no great big announcement only the retailer will blow their trumpet; in the case of these N Schlafwagen this was a totally unexpected release.

I highly recommend them but they are more expensive than other manufacturers. Their Siemens Viaggio Classic Coaches for the RZD are absolutely top quality in HO and N; N has some less detail than the HO versions with the interior printing but leagues ahead of the competition.

One thing I've spotted on these N "Dosto" coaches - I may not be correct and will need confirmation - are the bogies could be the wrong type. I've looked at photos on the net of these particular coaches (ex DB?) and the OeBB appear to have changed the bogies from the Aachen Talbot type bogies to a type SF400 or similar. In fact the HO version of these LS97001 have the "correct" bogies.

I think it is LS (could also be ACME?) that my mate recommended as being probably the finest model railway coaches, ever! Trouble is, I can only afford the very occasional one or secondhand!

I mentioned about getting the RZD coaches from LS Models representing the Moscow - Nice Ville (D408/409 route from 2015) express train a while back; two sets of 3 and a limited edition set of 2 commissioned by Pirata of the WLABmz (Siemen's Viaggio Classic) coaches. Here are pictures of the sets I got recently.

What is really nice about these sets, apart from each coach having a unique number, is that all the coaches when you look closely have distinct differences for each cabin having half or fully drawn blinds. The destination boards (prototype being a digital horizontal scrolling display) on the first two sets of 3 are the same however the Pirata set has a partial scrolling of Milano. The Pirata set also has one additional difference in that the two coaches have a vent on the roof.

The detail goes further when looking at the undercarriage, bogies and ends.

These are in my opinion higher quality models than the OeBB schlafwagen previously posted which do not have blinds drawn etc (something I may tinker with) also I can confirm the bogies are definitely wrong on the OeBB sleepers after further research. The OeBB have 5 pairs of these coaches, four pairs used on two routes EN466/467 and EN246/247 with the final pair kept in reserve however they are also used on route EN490/491 (Hamburg/Vienna) recently. The coaches came from the DACH pool (no furrther info on this consortium unfortunately maybe another label for CNL/CityNightLine ...). In the case of the bogies I read in the Siemen's bogies brochure that the OeBB did change them to the Siemens SGP400 (SF400) bogies and these coaches are described in the brochure as "10 Hotels".

The rake for the RZD has still missing one PKPIC WRMnouz and 3 RZD WLSRmee (maxed out rake depending on the season in the prototype). Here's a YouTube link of this train departing Brennero station.

I have done a small amount of research on my East German coaches. I'm sure John will correct me but it would appear that I could run them pretty much behind anything. DR does seem to have been a "make do and mend" because everything was "stolen" by the Russians as war reparations. They seem to have spent the rest of their existence ten steps behind.
On another point, as I have said before it would be nice to see pictures of some of these lovely locos and coaches running on layouts. Redo, Babz, Pantograph et all I've thrown down the gauntlet slap it in my face

Nice coach sets - always good to find these unique sets and compile actual trains IMHO. I tend to look more and more at LS and ACME now (love the ACME box packaging) as they create the named trains that pass through Munich

As discussed on some other threads, a little light weathering on those bogies would bring all the details to life - it is about the only weathering I would do on mine (locos or stock)

Mark - wish I could oblige but need to get my track finished first which is an ongoing thorn in my side...

Hi Mark & Everyone. I do have some pics of my layout construction. But it is very very early day's. I am having a bit of trouble with photobucket very eratic. I do have a 11.5 × 6.0 feet oval test track. So i can run in new loks.
I have been building a Kibri model of a station called Blause Mitholz. I did not buy the kit for that particular station i was going to call it something else till i read an article in my Swiss railway society magazine just by chance. Very interesting. So for the respect of the people who died there i will leave it with the original name. Babs

Those three diesels are Czechoslovakian made T 449.0 ČSD locos. Models made by Piko during DDR times.

Yes those two are special. I have a number of OeBB coaches from Fleischmann, Roco and the odd special from others but they sadly have a significant number of errors; I will be using these for the foreseeable future as "temporary" fillers until LSM, ACME or others provide in N the correct form coaches. I will eventually be putting the fillers which get replaced on the secondary market which I'm sure will get snapped up by those not too concerned about the details or for collecting. Funnily enough the Fleischmann T2S coaches for the Dacia train 860703 command a ludicrously high price on ebay; the most recent I've seen sold were between 122.87 to 157.15 GBP and these are cobbled compromises ...

Definitely weathering is on order for the undercarriage on these, I'm intending to buy a compressor (looking at the Iwata line atm) for an airbrush which I have owned for more than twenty years and never used - the original Aztek 470 deluxe set (with 4 nozzles unlike today's one which has 6), and use this for the weathering on coaches and I will be weathering my locos too. Trial guinea pigs will be the odd filler coach and Minitrix Taurii (Fleischmann wins hand down for the form, Hobbytrain and JC just look slightly odd).

I also bought an airbrush & compressor with good intention but have realized my limitations so sits in its' box unopened. For bogies, I did dry brushing and it is very effective, simple and fast - track dirt or light tan is v effective esp on the springs

Hi,

Another addition to the collection from LS Models but with a Czech theme. This one being a CD WLABmz sleeper coach exhibiting the Big Dipper along with a symbolic image of Holasovice; CD have 12 coaches like this with various UNESCO sites. This particular livery has been used until the end of 2016 and is gradually or has been changed to a Blue/White livery. These coaches are typically found in operation on the "Chopin" D/EN 406/407 route.

Detail as usual is high again as well as underneath; this one has the SGP400 bogie which should have been used on the OeBB schlafwagen. I tried to substitute these bogies onto the OeBB ones but appears to be not compatible there is some differences in screw sizes and the pin the bogie fits onto.

I used to see these CD (CNL) sleepers on the Prague - Dresden - Zurich overnight trains until last year but I think those have now been rerouted through Linz earlier this year. I collect these as well in HO, I'm at 5 out of the 11 released so far. Kromeriz should be coming out later this year as part of a 3-car set including a dining car. The quality is outstanding.

That's right about the Prague Zuerich train (CNL459 Canopus). Big changes now since CNL doesn't exist any more as well as the DB autozug/night service service both of which have been partially sold/taken over by the ÖBB. Already a lot of the WLABmz 173 stock of the DB are having new liveries of the Nightjet service . The Dosto used on CNL/DB are not going to be used by the ÖBB as I understand.

Good times for HO and N for different liveries.

We travelled on the original Loetschberg tunnel in 2005. I don't remember the colour scheme being quite so bright at the time. Imagine a train of those with the Chiquita Re460!
