These arrived this week, seller had two sets - should have bought them both as really nice and will go with my Rivarossi ballast wagons

The loading depot will somehow get placed near the pallet factory on the new frontal extension. Also, the 2x Faller station canopies should be coming down this week

Both lovely runners and they look great double-heading my Swiss heritage train.

Hi Babz,
I shall have a look at the Piko Hobby range as I've never considered them before. My picture posting stilll needs refining(those earlier ones were a bit tiny), so here's
another go with my only French electric loco, the mighty 6500 series from Roco bought earlier this year.

Babz - agree, those Piko coaches are a very alternative IMHO. Are those SBB coaches full scale length?

Tonka - looks great, I really like those 'inverted window' French locos but I must steer clear or that will be another collecting detour...:)

Have a few on the way which I hope to post just before Xmas. I also ordered several Peco Code 75 electrofrog turnouts and double-slips; found this website

http://www.track-shack.com/cgi-bin/sh00000...%2ehtml#SID=242

which just slightly beats Hattons on price and with free shipping under £100 which helps (Hattons and Rails should do similar IMHO)

Hi Reddo The Piko SBB coaches are 264mm in length, The Roco ones are 303mm so there is not muchdifference but the Piko ones are really good value I paid 26.00Euros Each, I'm not complaining as the Roco ones are 61.00Euros. Babs

Nice. It always looks good to see a nice long train going past. I know it has been said to shorten train lengths to suit ones railway layout size but I'd rather have a full length and count the passing wagons then have something that is short. May be it is because when I was young I used to run to the garden and watch the trains pass, and I always counted the wagons or coaches that the train was pulling! I remember when the first High Speed Train passed. We lived about half a km away or less from the railway but had a very good view. I remember the noise the origional engines had with those trains. They made a whistling sound.

I was just re-reading the Fleischmann 2015 catalogue and there is some nice history in there with a focus on Prussian railways

https://www.flipgorilla.com/p/2373543997001...439970015520/12

as well as the train formations on P42 if you download the catalogue (I really like the P4 and carriage formation). I am assuming FL locos are smooth and quiet runners?

The explanation of Prussian classification was of interest and how so many ere subsequently used on the DRG afterwards. Fleischmann are certainly focussed on getting their ROI on the new tooling investment

I came across a really cheap offer on the Rivarossi double decker Rostock S/Bahn liveried set; normally around £200 but the special offer was £120 plus £10 postage. The notes accompanying the set mention a decoder socket and i have yet to find out what benefit this might be; probably just lights. I should have more of a clue than this as a couple of years ago i bought the usual DR green version of this set but I never got round to installing a chip.

I suspect that there may be quite a few of these sets on dealer's shelves because not many will be modelling the Rostock area.

Hello,

I had planned on replacing the images I posted earlier; I have just been sidetracked for a while. I'll get back to that soon. Meanwhile, here is my only loco purchase for 2015. I already have several KWStE locos and was planning on getting this as the Tn version, However, economic rationalism won the day (there's a term you haven't heard for a while...).

Hello,
I agree.
I'm hoping that their Mitropa pack will be discounted in next year's sales. Although dealers seem to be selling those easily enough.
This set reminds me of the Sydney double deckers in a similar paint scheme, from the mid-seventies.

Hello Adrian & everyone, I have the BRAWA BR94 60 year aniversary set it is very nice But I did buy 2 x TN's I could not resist When they first came out i had terrible trouble with the Sound versions I think they were ESU 3.5. BRAWA after a lot of toing and froing and at the price i paid for them then In the UK was nearly £500.00 each I did eventually Get a full refund. A couple of years later I bought 2 Tn's without sound and the BR94 set and retrofitted it with ESU V4.00 with a stay alive that is all it needed. I then found some Decent German Suppliers and paid a lot less for them, Now they run very well on Fleischmann track. Babs

I love my brawa locomotives to bits for their fine detail, but yeah their running characteristics under loksound 3.5 are a pain in the behind.

I wonder if the problem is the pick up and the simple answer to fixing it is to put a stay alive feature into them?

Hello,
I had my eye on this set for a long time, but off my list now with the DRG 94 in hand. It is a well thought out set.
Strangely enough, my first Brawa purchase was the 10501 set, with:
  • the East German version of the E41 loco
  • 3 DR coal cars
  • 9 Preiser figures
  • A ready-to-assemble model of a coal silo
  • A bag of loose coal
What can I say? Leibe zum detail... and I got it for a song. I hope Brawa do another small set, with clever features.
The 60th anniversary set is another fine example. I think the release coincided with MRR downturn around 2010, spoiling its success.

HAI CARUMBA!
I suspect that now is not the time to reveal that I paid just 178 Euros for my BR94. It worked out at $AU275. Delivered an' all.
Easily one of the best buys I've ever made. This view might change when I eventually get around to running it...

I am using 3-rail C-Track currently and have had no problems with my other Brawa loks (E73, E77 and E95).

Thanks for the heads up on Loksound 3.5. I think mine are all either 3.0 or 40.

Hello all,
I thought I'd beat the Christmas rush so here's my 2015 present just arrived... the Trix Norwegian Railwys EL12 articulated iron ore hauler, running on the Narvik-Kiruna line up to the early 1980s.
I travelled this line in 1982 so I trip down memory lane for me. Unbelieveably I can't find any photos of the railway in my albums, I was a penniless student at the time and think I ran out of film
at the end of the trip and could'nt afford a week's wages for a roll of Norwegian Kodachrome.
There's a motor in each body, DCC controlled, it's fascinating to watch the conrods on each unit move slowly in and out of synch as it goes along. Great sound, the lights are a bit weedy, more like
sidelights than headlights in their intensity, not what I expected in this LED age.
I've managed to get some Roco 3 axle iron ore hoppers to run with it. A bit of research shows a prototypical train consisted of 68 of these hoppers and I actually fancy having a go at that -a long term project...
Season's greetings to you all and have fun!
Ian
