QUOTE (tonkatoy @ 23 Dec 2015, 20:38) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hello all,
I thought I'd beat the Christmas rush so here's my 2015 present just arrived... the Trix Norwegian Railwys EL12 articulated iron ore hauler, running on the Narvik-Kiruna line up to the early 1980s.
I travelled this line in 1982 so I trip down memory lane for me. Unbelieveably I can't find any photos of the railway in my albums, I was a penniless student at the time and think I ran out of film
at the end of the trip and could'nt afford a week's wages for a roll of Norwegian Kodachrome.
There's a motor in each body, DCC controlled, it's fascinating to watch the conrods on each unit move slowly in and out of synch as it goes along. Great sound, the lights are a bit weedy, more like
sidelights than headlights in their intensity, not what I expected in this LED age.
I've managed to get some Roco 3 axle iron ore hoppers to run with it. A bit of research shows a prototypical train consisted of 68 of these hoppers and I actually fancy having a go at that -a long term project...
Season's greetings to you all and have fun!
Ian

Hello,
It's awesome. Almost as awesome as that huge Renfe thing that Electrotren put out.
I'm not sure what era this is, but NMJ have 4 different sets of the M2 (Norsk type) (Hopper Wagon). 4 in each set, I think. Era 1.

Thanks Adrian,
I think NMJ and Roco have co-operated in knocking out variations of these hoppers. I think NMJ market the Era 1 versions and Roco the Era 3 ( which I have and go with the EL 12). I seem to have cleaned MSL out of the Roco hoppers so will have to look elsewhere. Kramm have the Trix versions available in 6 packs but the unit price is higher than I paid for the Roco ones so I'm trying to be sensible in my considerations...
PS: I looked at the Electrotren locos, you're right; that green thing is a beast.

Have a look at the information about the Tn on the Brawa website. Apart from some of the nicest models around, you'll find Brawa also makes one of the nicest websites around, too. I can't confirm how accurate their 'info about the original', but it's always an interesting read.
The Tn is a loco that KWStE had made in the 1920s. The BR94 version is how it appeared after incorporation into the DRG.

QUOTE (Mick Bonwick @ 24 Dec 2015, 02:45) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>It's an abbreviation.

Maybe it's letters representing specific functions? The other KWStE locos (K, C, Fc etc) seem to have random letters, unless they're abbreviations for something in german.
I guess it would be on a wiki page somewhere that lists these types of thing.

John, in mitigation for the video disappointment what about a not-so-recently-purchased Roco DR 01? Unfortunately this one runs like a three-legged dog even after the ministrations of various experts, due to corrosion of the pick-ups and backs of the wheels.

Well there you go, I did have a fiddle about on YouTube so I'm not quite sure what resulted in it working.
The 01 is a superb looking engine, such a shame I can't get it to run.
PS - the Big Boy in the background of the video was obviously the next stage of the top-secret trials...
Cheers

I edited the post to fix the reference. There was too much data. All you need is the stuff after the =. No need for the https.

Looks great Ian. BTW - what kind of track is that you are using - Roco?

And I like the 'banker' - is it a Trix G4 - if so I just received the KayBay version in green after a lucky find on the Bay incorrectly described.

Cheers

Hi all;

David, a belated thank you for sorting out the video-

Redo, yes it is the Trix G4 which, I think became the class 96 in DRG guise. Only the rear set of drivers is powered in
the Trix model but with traction tyres it can still move an adequate load. The track is Trix C track, easy to use and which
I hope to use outdoors someday for that ultimate train set that we are all planning for!
