Picked up a few days ago in the second hand
section of Togcentre, Gentofte, Denmark. Two DSB suburban/regional coaches from Heljan, and one driving trailer from McK. The latter is AC, with a centre pickup skate but the axles are insulated, so it should not be beyond my skills to convert it to DC; it has DCC decoder fitted as standard, but I will be careful not to blow that up.

Further to my last post, I have had to order some replacement wheels for the two Heljan coaches as they had AC wheelsets. I have placed the order with Steam era Models, which is based not too far away from here on Phillip Island.

The DC conversion of the Bns driving car was even easier and simpler than I could have hoped. The coach sides can be eased out from the chassis and lifts off, revealing a nicely detailed interior with a PCB on top. The underside has the SMLEDs for interior lighting, while the top has a few other bits, including a 3-pin connector with a jumper over two of the pins. Simply swapping the jumper to connect the other side converts the whole thing to DC/DCC, with a decoder already built-in or hidden somewhere. I removed the centre pickup skate and snipped the wire from that (I'll unsolder it properly later). This was then easily programmed for an address on the programming track, and the various functions were run through - I am attaching a link to a short video I took of these working, with apologies for the out of focus effect.

Functions:
F0 = directional head/tail lights
F1 = flashing orange lights
F2 = cab lights
F3 = top headlight off
F4 = tail lights at trailing end of coach (not shown)
F5 = interior lights on
F6 = dim interior lighting

Hi all,
I saw this on MSL (where else :)) and thought it a nice addition as I'm quite into military history. Anyway, it's the Liliput L130002 camouflage troop carrier set with BR 42 loco
I have added several additional wagons and installed a ESU Loksound 5 decoder (my first attempt at this), and a smoke generator. I couldn't find a BR42 sound file in their library so downloaded the BR50, looking at the locos, they both look similar with the same wheel sets so I figured it would be close enough.

I was hoping to fill the troop carriages with Prieser 16876 sets
Gesture Military uniform Headgear Art Soldier

But have now discovered they are discontinued :(, so any suggestions would be welcomed. Also, any WWII German equipment etc to go in the open wagons. Most of the Prieser HO WWII German troops are unpainted sets and I'm not up for that anymore.
MSL have these still available Prieser 16878
Gesture Military person Soldier Ballistic vest Military uniform

So if it comes to it I may get a few sets of these and chop them about a bit as you will only see their top halves through the windows.
Regards
Alan

Sheet over the open wagons, camo net the armour. It's all about minimising what the enemy can see of your assets, to the greatest possible extent. Naturally this varied between theatres: in Western Europe once Allied air superiority had been obtained it was essential.

Santa has been generous this year.

To extend my existing rake of Era IV Y/B coaches, this set arrived:

Rivarossi HR4345 with two 2nd class coaches and a dining car (I'm a sucker for having Mitropa carriages in my German trains).

The other new arrival is the first of two sets of On Track Models NLBX banana vans, a somewhat exotic model even by Australian standards. The NLBX vans were rebuilt from older louvre vans in the late 1980s and used exclusively for transporting bananas from northern New South Wales to its southern markets. They had a relatively short service life until the mid 90s, but were remarkable enough to warrant a model.

The nifty thing about these is that, as with the prototype, no two cars look exactly the same. Not all of them had the signs and logos, and the yellow line liveries are slightly different with each carriage. Set 2 should materialise in a few days for my birthday.

I was also tempted to buy this:

View attachment 21936

This is Roco 70813 DR Epoch IV which as modelled, in the 1980's was based at Falkenberg. 37 of the Class V100.4 reclassified as Class 111 between 1981 - 83 for use by DR service departments; theoretically heavy shunting. (not in the general passenger or freight pools). I already have one of these numbered as a Class 293 post 1993 DR/DB merger and I have to renumber that back to Epoch IV, otherwise the livery seen above survived right up to 2000 with some rebuilt as Class 298.3 and turned out in DB-AG red. The DR V100 classes and deriviatives suffered rapid withdrawal post mauerfall. Many were sent to Stendhal works where some were re-engined to become DB-AG Class 298. I will have to pursue this topic elsewhere. The variations and renumbering of the DR V100.4 are labyrinthine.

Back to the model - the small sponge protection that is placed to protect the nose of the loco in the box has pulled of a horizontal handrail that is placed just below the front numberplate. Inevitable but care must be taken with the details that are already installed.

The model requires a PLUX 22 chip and I've not dealt with one of those before. I wonder what benefits that will bring over the 8 or 21 pin that I have been used to. Apart from adding a chip I have a lot of details to add which are supplied in the usual plastic bags.

Best regards .......... Greyvoices (alias John)
Very nice model John, this site is very useful for details of the V100 family, apparently 111 107-9 was only numbered as such in 1990, v100-online.de

No collection of trains which run in the Austrian Tyrol and over the north ramp of the Brenner Pass is complete without the 4024 class of Talent 1 EMUs. At the start of 2021 I think it was, Brawa announced they would be releasing their 4024 in the new OBB CityJet livery. It seems Brawa don't do large production runs and these 4024 models were very popular and reservations on MSL sold out before I could get there but I did manage to place a reservation with Rainer in Innsbruck.

The first deliveries started in the summer but I heard nothing and assumed that my order had fallen through the cracks of Rainer's webshop floor but to my surprise and delight I got an email requesting payment at the start of December. I paid by bank transfer using 'Wise' and on December 5th the Austrian postal service sent an email saying they'd picked it up.
Tracking showed the parcel had reached Vienna airport on the 6th and then it went quiet; very quiet.

After a week I registered with the Austrian postal service but still the status said Vienna airport. A week later I emailed Rainer asking if they could get any more detail. They said everything was ok, it wasn't lost. I began to suspect that I could guess who the UK delivery agent was.

Christmas came and went.

On the 28th the status was updated. The parcel was now somewhere in the UK. Out of curiosity and because I have a devious mind, I asked google maps how long it would take to walk from Vienna airport to Heathrow. I think the answer was 17 days. I reckon my model made the journey to the UK under its own power.

Meanwhile the parcel cleared customs on the 29th and on the 30th it had reached a location which is our nearest Parcel Force depot. Sure enough I got a letter from Parcel Force on the 3rd requesting VAT plus a clearance charge of £12. I paid online and the parcel was delivered on the 5th.

Having waited so long, I only got round to opening it today after the Christmas decorations had been stored under the layout in the loft.

So here it is:

The 4024 is a four car unit.

They are quite short as can be seen by comparing the length against the VSOE coaches in the background.
What is not so obvious is that the unit is articulated.

Was it worth the wait?
I think so. I really will have to build a north ramp Brenner Pass model one day. I've just ordered two more double pocket wagons...

Coincidently I have had two deliveries via FedEx from MSL in the time it took the parcel to get from Vienna to UK customs. One at the start of the month and one immediately after Christmas - Roco Z21 switch decoders had come into stock at last!

I don't know anything about the history of that class. I found this on Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombardier_Talent . I don't think there's anywhere in the OBB network they aren't seen. I've seen them in Lindau (Bavaria) - Bregenz, the Vorarlberg, Innsbruck, Vienna, Graz and Klagenfurt.

One thing that struck me about it as I drove it round the loft is how small the overall profile of the train is compared with the HO freight trains I was also running at the time - mostly double pocket wagons hauled by 1116s and Vectrons.

And a second set of RQTYs, this time in National Rail gold and blue.

They should pair just fine with the previous set - National Rail was privatised and renamed to Pacific National in 2002, but it's unlikely that all rolling stock was repainted quickly. The loco I intend on using with these kept its National Rail livery until 2007, so it's not implausible that there would have been a few mixed liveries.

(In fact, Queensland Rail's freigh division was privatised in 2004, First as QR National and then as Aurizon, but to this day there are numerous locos and wagons driving around with the old Queensland Rail liveries and logos)
