G'day, first posting, great Mag!! Does anybody know what the wagon is, bottom left hand corner page30 in the September issue??. To me it looks like some sort of small steam powered yard shunter??.....Dave.

The absence of a chimney and it's much, much smaller size than any steam or IC powered shunter I ever knew on BR makes me think it may be a Wickham Permanent way trolley (IC powered) or similar with a flat truck carrying ballast, not coal, for track maintenance. The flat truck itself looks like a modified platelayer's trolley from the small wheels.

I think it looks a bit odd because there's a tarpulin or canvas cover over the internal works, possibly to keep the Scottish weather off it!
