Can anyone recommend who makes the best quality and most appropriate signal gantry's for use in a OO Scottish country scene? Preferably one which spans two tracks.

Neil,
I don't know anyone who can provide these 'off the shelf' but it is likely that Model Signal Engineering www.modelsignals.com sell the parts from which you can make up what you want.
Hope this is of help,
John Webb
Hi Neil,

Are you talking colour light or semaphore?

John

Semaphore for this section. I will use coloured lights elsewhere.

Thanks for the links John

Neil,
For the area you are talking about a gantry across track(s) is unlikely. It's more likely that a bracket signal would have been used, for example to take starter signals at the end of an island platform or on a single line, the splitter showing which platform the train was to enter. And more recently on Scottish lines worked by Radio Token systems, there are not even proper signals - just indicator lights. (See recent articles in RM.)

I knew something like this would happen when I stopped buying RM.

Neil,
It's been a series of articles looking at the West Highland Line to Fort William. Article 10 was in March 07's issue; I think they've got one more to go looking at Fort William itself. The articles spread back over about the last 18 months as they have not printed one every month. They concentrate on the modern scene with some historic information.

John

Thanks for that John I actually have most of these. I only missed out on last months RM, as I flicked through it and saw nothing that interested me so I put it back on the shelf. As it comes out two months later here I will be able to pick that up in about a month and a half. Thanks for the advice!
Andrew at MSE is quite a helpful chap if you phone him he will probably be able to give you guidance on this there is also a website on signalling i found a while back which is run by enthusists with loads of information and photos on signalling in all areas of the UK I'll try and find the url
