Simple project for insurance purposes

Hi All,
After looking at my considerable loco collection i decided a photo session would be a good idea god forbid anything should happen to them for insurance purposes if you all think and add up your collections probably you would be shocked as to their value.

Keeping a photographic record is far better than descriptions and will show any modification to the factory item, so i set about making a simple photobox 2ft X 8 inches and 7 inches high approx, it has a crossover in the centre with of course two tracks leading away to the ends and is powered to show any locos with lighting.
For its background i have chosen a rockface a green area leading to the top of the backboard a double tunnel cut out of the rock adds interest.

All this came from offcuts of mdf from my board build and offcuts of track the crossing is a s/h insulafrog one i had lying around but it will be covered by the locos all but the small shunters. rock castings were tests of my moulds.

A nice simple project that doubles as a small test box in DC connected to the controller so a duel purpose item really.

So if you fancy a different project not too time consuming and useful i hope you find this idea a good addition to your collections.

I''l post some pics of it soon as it is covered in wet pva at the moment the ballasting just finished.

I kinda already have that kind of thing which also doubles up as my background for my ebay items as well.

Here is an example of it.

Hi Kain

I found that I get better prices by having a white or cream background

I did an experiment with a grass covered bank and a sky background (same loco 30% less $) and I think it distracts from the model
which is good on a layout but not for selling , look at most catalogs . they may have pictures of the items on a layout but the bulk of the catalog will have items with a neutral backgroung

Regards Zmil
You simply cannot beat a photographic record - for example I take photos of the stock boxes that we take when we exhibit SL - save faffing around with lists.

It's also an easy way of "cataloguing" your home centents for insurance purposes.
Mine is not for insurance purposes but solely for cataloging every single Loco, rolling stock, coaches etc... and trying to keep a healthy database of when ,where a certain item was purchased, and all sorts of important data that I might need in the future. You know at our age brain cells are declining and one easily tends to forget.
Its a simple one rail diaroma that I take pictures on.

Once photographed I put everything into my Yard Office inventory program where I can store all the details of my models. Great for US outline, but a little harder for other countries as you have to enter manufacturers yourself.
