QUOTE (Sir Galahad @ 2 Nov 2007, 14:27) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Just had a look at the digitrax stuff and it's a bit daunting! Can ayone tell me what i'm looking for?

I agree about Digitrax being daunting but I eventually went with them and have no regrets. The following is of course from a Newbie so should be treated accordingly!
There are 3 Digitrax starter sets: Zypher, Super Empire Builder and Super Chief. All are inter-connectable through Loconet, Digitrax's peer to peer system which is included in vestigial form with each set. Zephyr is basic but good for the money; SEB is probably best avoided if you want to read back CVs without add-on such as Zmil mentions; Super Chief is best if you can run to it. If you make a wrong decision you can upgrade and use the original kit through Loconet.
The DCC System Chart above is well worth studying. Remember no gain without (a little) pain!

There you are Sir Galahad - just proves how each system has is adherents. Its a bit like those who would always buy one particular make of car. And as with cars you can pay different prices at different retailers. Take the plunge and enjoy.

QUOTE (josek @ 17 Nov 2008, 19:02) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>ZTC may not be considered to be the greatest now, but I've got quite a big investment in it and it seems to work for me. I've been reading some of the comments on it. However when I bought it a long time ago there was not much else available, and at least they've kept their promise about its being upgradeable which is more than can be said for some manufacturers. And despite what some people have said, they have provided good support. However I have now found that DCC Supplies provide a much better and cheaper chipping service, and I can thoroughly recommend them for people like me who don't feel competent to open up their locos and fit a chip themselves. I have not experienced any probelms with compatibility of these chips with the ZTC controller.
Hi Josek
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but ZTC went down at the end of September. http://www.modelrailforum.com/forums/style...icons/icon5.gif
Its demise has been the subject of some discussion on this site and in the MR press eg p142 of British Railway Modelling.
regards
Barry
