Hope someone here has some suggestions !

We have a spam problem to the tune of 2-300 spams every 24 hrs - mainly our fault as our e-mail address is in "plain" on our website.

Currently, we use Incredimail for our e-mails but now it seems overwhelmed & can no longer filter out or block spam.

Any suggestions please ? - we gave up using Outlet for the same reasons about 3 years ago.

Also, anyone know of any software we can use to divert our e-mails through the sort of system that means "new" or "unapproved" senders have to go through the "enter the code from the jumbled letters" type system that you have to use on some sites ?

Hopefully, thanks in advance.

I use BT and their spam filter catches almost all the junk and puts it in a 'BULK' folder but some still gets through, but only 1/3 a week. its part of the total package so not cheap, I share the cost with my son so is not to bad.

I have a friend how now uses Tesco and he does not get to much spam as they also have filters that you can use but it costs extra I think, no sure as I have not tried it myself.

hope this is useful

I have various eMail addresses on various servers
To give you an example :
[email protected]
[email protected]

Now if the eMail address is NOT to admin, then the mail server is setup to redirect to junkmailfilter
There is then an autoresponder on the junkmailfilter advising that this mailbox is not in use, please revisit the website for correct details on how to contact us

There also various strengths of mailbox filter

If the problem is specific to one eMail address, then consider using mailform with an exception control
This is quite a simple process and also makes it easy to change the eMail address in use at any time

I always recommend NOT to use plain eMail addresses on webpages, harvesters can find these with great ease
Instead use a mailform, as above, or setup the robots.txt file so that the page is NOT spidered by search engines

Another solution is to make the main eMail address in an unusual format, example :
[email protected]

If you need any further advice, just reply

I have some code to stop people being able to read your mail address off the website. Please let me know if you want it. It works well, but seen as the spammers already have your address all it'll do is stop new spamming systems getting your mail address from your website.

With the mail collection in general, do you use the webmail or Outlook/Outlook Express?
I get about 500 spams a day. I have different types of email and some I block on the email server and some I block on my PC.

Server blocking is quite drastic as you don't get to see any potential good mail that has been flagged as spam by mistake.

On my PC, I use Mozila Thunderbird with the Spamato plug-in. It works well, but does unfortunately marks quite a few non spam emails as spam. I quickly check the spam bin every now and then.

We use a combination of Spam Assassin and our own home-grown filtering. This gets nearly all spam.
GppSoftware runs an eGroups system and as a result of this, we get well in excess of 500-600 spams per day. Spam Assassin and our own code deals with it.

I have my own theory as to how to stop the world's spam problem overnight: cut all the internet cables which connect the US to the rest of the world - afterall, that is where nearly ALL of our spam originates from but goes via mail relays in Russia, China and a few other Asian countries.
