When I tried to access this website at about 8am today it was incredibly slow. The home page took more than two minutes to appear. Thinking the same would happen when I selected active topics page, I went away and started preparing breakfast. When I looked again five minutes later it had still not appeared so I gave up. Moreover, this is not the first time; it has happened at least twice before, although weeks ago. I do not think that it was anything to do with my computer or broadband connection as each time I was able to access other websites at the usual speed and each time things have returned to normal after an hour or two.

Has anyone experienced the same thing?

Has anyone an explanation?

Sometimes I find that connections to any site can be slow, especially if the spammers (a long, lingering, lonely, painful death to them) are out in force from under their stones.

Try clearing your site history & cookies & do a "cold" re-boot - often works for me.

Hope this helps.

It could be the google or another search engine spider scanning the site. This can slow things down temporarily on any website.

Do a google search on a model railway topic and you normally find Model Rail Forum featuring somewhere in the first 2-3 pages so information and messages placed here do get widely referenced and cached. Important to remember your P's and Q's else you may at some point in the future regret what you say in the present!

I normally find this site to be excellent for speed of loading, the only time it's slow is when the hay cart ventures out on the turnpike !
