Latest news from St Albans South can be seen on our 2022 News page including details of our latest acquisition, a rare North-Eastern Railway Slotted Post signal, rescued from a garden in Sheffield.

Please note that the 12th June Open Afternoon, while being the 130th 'birthday' of the box, will not be a public celebration of the occasion, although we shall have a few extra exhibits on display.

Extra Open Afternoon now arranged for Wednesday June 1st, 2-5pm, during half-term.

We will also open during the Autumn Term half-term holiday but are awaiting the dates for Hertfordshire.

2023 Open Days at St Albans South Signal Box
Considerable while since I wrote anything about this preserved Midland Railway signal box.
We had 2,073 visitors over the whole of 2022. We are expanding our openings to school half-term weeks after trialling it during 2023.

We are the largest preserved Midland Railway signal box and a national & local award winner!

FREE ENTRY for all! (The St Albans Signal Box Preservation Trust is a Registered Charity and relies on donations.)

Light refreshments available on Open Days.

Access through the garden is level or ramped. The box downstairs is accessed by ramp, and there is a toilet available; the upper floor is accessed by a long staircase.
