Hi. First of all congrats on what has developed into a truly superb magazine. Bought my first one at the Bristol exhibition and not missed one since thanks to ordering from my local village store.

Issue number 10 has a photo of a model of a Stanier 0-4-4T at work on the Harford Street layout (truly great period layout really illustrating how these old East London lines were). In issue number 11 you show another clearer photo of same loco number 41909. The first two locos I "copped" as an 8 year old trainspotter in 1955 were 41908 and 41909 at work on the Watford - St.Albans branch known as the "Abbey Flier" because it goes to St Albans Abbey station.

As a modeller I would like to have further info as to whether this is scratch or kit built as I would like to have a go myself at some point. Can you point me in the right direction or give me more info please. I posted a note under "current issue" last week but no replies yet.

Once again thanks for a great mag.

QUOTE (Nick Holliday @ 16 Apr 2008, 12:24) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>For the record, London Road Models produce a 4mm kit for this class. I believe their products have a good reputation. They are a hosted trader on the Scalefour Society's website.

Thanks Nick and others for your useful ideas and suggestions some good things to follow up especially London Road Models and also possibility of using a Jinty as basis. I believe Alan Gibson produce chassis kit for the 2P as well.

Super photo of 41909 too.

Thanks again fellas

QUOTE (10001 @ 17 Apr 2008, 04:30) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi . I think I would use a Jinty chassis by removing the last pair of wheels and coupling rods . Replace all remaining wheels with spares from a Hornby 2-6-4T.......... ........ with something I have made instead of constantly whinging about the manufacturers not making a RTR model.
I hope I have given you an idea or two and something to think about and possibly some inspiration to have a go.
If so, then enjoy!
Tony

Hi Tony,

Some good thoughts on a way forward and at some stage I will have to decide whether to cut and carve or fork out £80 or so plus wheels , gearbox and motor. Some good ideas here.

Coincidentally I was looking at an old Observers Book of British Railway Locomotives I got off ebay only this morning and saw the Johnson 1F and thought immediately about possibility of cutting off the back of the cab of a Jinty. I agree with you that there is far too much whinging about lack of this or that class as rtr when with a bit of nip and tuck or cannibalisation a good representation to run on a layout can be made. I do model railways for fun not to be a pedantic purist.

Enough said
