Good morning, I'm hoping someone can help me. I've only just acquired a B-L Super Enterprise.....
and as I expect that you've guessed, it came without a spirit burner.
My obvious question now is, do any of you guys know where I can locate a set of drawings (preferably a PDF) for one?
Or clutching at straws here, an original one - thanks Colin.

Have a look at http://sidestreet.info/locos/loco50.html -- half way down is a good picture of a meths burner.

While Basset Loake products are not exactly in my comfort zone I can claim to have spent the best part of a lifetime in engineering R&D so I do have some informed expertise to offer if that's any comfort!

It may be that you wish to keep the model as near original as possible by retaining the use of a spirit burner which is fair enough but personally I don't like them as they are not very controllable and something of a fire hazard as singed paintwork usually stands mute whitness.

As an alternative had you considered LPG? A while ago I recall there were ceramic burners being offered for sale, might be worth a look if you don't have the wherewithal to make your own.

Small displacement lubricators are pretty useless, you just can't scale nature. I'd give some thought to fitting a mechanical one after the style of LBSC's offerings.

Never seen any Bassett Lowke locos except in photos but a source for LPG tanks and burners in http://www.forest-classics.co.uk/ and alternatively if you want a burner Roundhouse have one but as to if you can make it fit I have my doubts, I bought one for a future boiler I aim to build one day [
]
I also got the Mamod conversion burner/tank which is a designed fit with the only trouble the older Mamod boiler was not heat resistant enough so I think gas is out for soldered boilers and they must be silver soldered.
I would be happy to send you a Mamod solid fuel tray if of any use but probably F/C have them in stock as spares.
I made a gas burner with a length of brass rod and slits across the top with a coiled copper tube connecting to small gas tank.... for loco safety if you have no means of refilling the boiler while under steam the smallest F/C tank would likely suit you. You want the gas to run out before all the water is boiled off as steam

F/C can also sell you gas jets.
On the question of spirit burners you might find it easier to use solid fuel ... proper Mamod or 'fire lighting' cubes cut to size
That link that LTSR gave you shows a classy version and a simple row of two or three wick burners is what I have seen in the past.

Thanks chaps for the informative replies, I did manage to get some sound advice from someone on the Unofficial Mamod Forum who had built quite a few for the 'Super Enterprise' together
with scale drawings and photos - wonderful places these forums, full of helpful people giving up their precious time, I just wonder what we did without them.
Subsequently the burner's now all made and working as it should - the loco's still in the painting stage at present - pictures to follow, as and when she's finished - purists please don't be offended, but she's in blue and black.
I'm still trying to date the loco - it has the ref S226 stamped on the chassis.

JCUKNZ - just in case you haven't seen one and you wanna see one, I've attached a YouTube link of a 'Super Enterprise' in full flight - I think that it was this link that started me on the quest for one.

Enjoy.....
