Talismann

Just been told that this years Talismann is going to be hauled by another A4, namely Bittern. Why didn't they book Clanline? It would make for a brilliant comparision to Union of South Africa and Duchess of Sutherland, and Bittern is going to be in the same paint job as UoSA so it will be the same for the photographers too. As a fan of 35028 I am biased but then wouldn't it of been nice to compare pacific's from the big 3 (I say 3 rather than 4 as GWR didn't have one to preserve to let have a go on the Talismann)

Just a few ramblings from me again, just have to wait to see Tornado on it next!

I guess the A1 Trust would prefer to stick with East Coast motive power for the Talisman - Bittern will come on the train at Grantham and will mark the end of steam in the NE at Newcastle (and thus will be an appropriate loco there).

Once again the Talisman will offer hundreds of mile of A4 haulage on the old racing grounds where the class excelled. Travellers will also have the chance to clock Tornado with the boiler fitted!

It will be nice to see Bittern back after so many years in the wilderness. (OK I also vastly prefer the big bulleids) Hopefully someone will post some pix on here after the run?

They did actually. The Great Bear was a pacific. it was converted back into a 4-6-0 becuase it was particularly track sensative. the inside bearings on the trailint truck ran hot.

Clan Line never does any public railtours other than VSOE. Theres only one this year on the End of Southern Steam Weekend.
