TCS M series decoder in Bachmann Jinty

Hello,

I put a TCS M1 in a Bachmann Jinty last night and am struggling somewhat with tuning performance. I'd like it to run like a proper shunter - good slow speed control, limited max speed, some accelleration/decelleration delay.

How should I configure CV 2, 5, 6 for speed, CV 3 and 4 for momentum and CV 56 and 57 for dither?

Does anyone else have a Jinty or similar with a TCS decoder from the M range that they'd be happy sharing their setup with?

I've had a look on the TCS web site and gone through the (excellent) documentation, but I was hoping to refer to a real life example

Thanks,

Walter

Hello Walter

Is this a new M1 with back EMF? If so, you shouldn't really need to adjust very much at all.

If not, leave CV2 alone if you are configuring dither. If you want some starting points for CV settings try http://www.bromsgrovemodels.co.uk/Decoderscvsettings4mm.htm but remember every loco is slightly different. The settings shown are not specifically for a Jinty but do give examples of settings for slow running.

Walter, how did you get on with this?

I have a similar problem with my TCS M1's and trying to control the speed. I have tried changing the CV's, but so far I have only made it worse

Hi Dave,

I have carried out a couple of factory resets too... In the end I followed the guidance in this document:

http://www.tcsdcc.com/pdf/Plain%20English%20Guide%20r3.pdf

I ended up setting CV57 to 35 and that seemed to make slow running smoother, but the loco doesn't quite pull away yet as smootly and slowly as a I want it. Pretty good, but not like on some other decoders I have. But maybe that's because a Jinty does not have a flywheel???

What CV's have you got in there??

Walter
