Can anyone help me with the normal distance between Telegraph Poles along the trackside, I seem to remember as a kid (in the 1950's) we could work out the speed of a train by counting how many passed in a minute, so they must have been at a fixed distance apart.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Mike,

About 50 yards looks right: a couple of feet in 4mm scale.

Yes, I reckon many of the claimed 'tons' were obtained by this dubious technique!

Mike,

Welcome to the Forum. Your question was asked about a year ago by someone else, so in the Signalling sub-forum of the Track, Layouts and Scenery Forum you will find Telegraph Poles - click on this and it will switch you to that topic which you may find useful.

Regards,
