It's not just about size but of noise and movement. The glory of Steam Locomotives is the pipework AND running gear all moving with purpose, giant mechanical beasts given life by something as ephemeral as steam. That's one of the reasons for the popularity of Shay locomotives at least in the US. Cute little names and funny colors are fine and good but give me a black locomotive that causes the earth to rumble anytime.
