This film, starring Peter Sellers and others, features a large chunk of action in the vicinity of a level crossing.

Early in 2008 some of us were trying to identify the location of this crossing - see Wrong arm of the law, Unidentified railways scenes so I flag up the reshowing of this film in case someone can add to the clues about the location.

John

Looking at my London Atlas, Fairfax Road runs parallel to the railway line, but there is a "Bushy Park Road" which looks as though it once crossed the railway and which also crosses Fairfax Road. So it looks a very promising site - especially as the line from the level crossing site goes away in a long straight line as we see in the film.

I'll try a bit of Google Earth and see if that can confirm the location.

John

I've looked at the above location in Google Earth and I think it can be eliminated. In particular there is absolutely no sign of the gas holders visible not far beyond the crossing. The housing looks very well established, so I don't think they've been built on a gas-holder site. Ah well, just have to keep on looking!

John
