My son was given a boxed set of Thomas stories for Christmas, they purport to be based upon the original railway series but all the stories follow the same basic plot, as follows:

1) New haughty engine/bus/truck/barge/bicycle arrive on the railway and either bosses the others around or boasts about how much better they are.

2) New character comes a cropper in an incident involving trucks and has to be rescued by the existing character most offended earlier.

3) New character learns humility etc etc, excuse me whilst I vomit.

It's all rather worthy stuff but not a patch on the original

Thought I'd add some possible story lines.

1) Thomas's branch line falls victim to bustitution.
2) Edward is cannibalized for spares to keep the other engines going.
3) Isle of Sodor franchise goes to First Group, all locos 'barbied' up.
