I had trouble with getting the distance of the throw pin correct initially too. It is not easy getting the motor fastened to the underneath of the board in exactly the position you want in some circumstances. What I did was wire it up and try switching it to see how far it was travelling before permanently installing it. I found Tortoise easier in some respects as they have an adjustable part which you can adhust after instalation. I wrote about these two point motors in my blog some time ago. It might be worth a look to see if any of the info I put in there is of help.

The Tillig motor can be adjusted to three travel length positions. The one which is factory set is the one you want for Tillig points. Other than that it is just a question of adjusting the position of the motor relative to the track as there should be just enough travel. Is the other point motor you tried also Tillig? What DCC system are you using? Does it enable you to adjust the pulse time?
