Just came across this by chance while looking for something else, http://www1.uk.conrad.com, follow links to model railways, accessories, electrical.

I don't need a transformer at present but wondered how useful/suitable these are for model railways; I have assumed the intended use is for DCC? (certainly significantly cheaper than the transformer I purchased from All Components for DCC use.)

The cased ones are fine & appoved. Just check that the output voltage is correct for the DCC unit it will be used with.
