Hello

I am wondering if anyone can help me out on a query. I recently was lucky enough to purchase a Triang Hornby RS90 pullman express set , just 39 years after first receiving one as a Christmas present.

Back in 1969 my set featured the GWR version of the Albert Hall loco, but this newly aquired set has a BR liveried loco. I understood that as the set was only available for one year (ie 1969) that the loco supplied would have been the GWR one. I fully understand that any loco could have been substituted in the intervening years but as this new set is so original (the track and stock are genuinely unused) I dont think this has occured.

So in summary, could set RS90 have appeared in 1969 with either a GWR or a BR loco and which of the two would be more sought after.

Many thanks in advance

Thanks David superb info.
But it now gives me a dilema, do I keep this set as it is , or do I replace the BR loco with a GWR one for the sake of nostalgia. Although I have to say that it is a nice problem to have to deal with !!

QUOTE (GoingUnderground @ 19 Dec 2008, 21:22) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Pat Hammond's book "he Story of Rovex Volume 2 1965-1971 says that it was made in both 68 and 69 with 8,700 made in '68 ans 6,000 in '69. The loco is R759 which is the BR version. Apparently surplus box lids at the end of the run were relabelled for use with the RS604 Night Mail set. The track should all be Super 4, i.e the ****** stuff with the fishplates on the right hand rail.

Pat's 3 books are generally reckoned to be the authority on Rovex. He lists teh contents as "BR Albert Hall R759, three Pullman cars, level crossing, R487 Power connecting clip and oval of Super 4 track. He doesn't mention if ther ewere occasions when the GWR version was used if the BR one wasn't available. Of course, substitution could occur, for R759 (BR livery) with R759G GWR Livery, but I think if that had happened he would have said so. Triang generally sold you want was "on the tin" and didn't indulge in late substitutions. As the market leader at the time they probably had al the items they needed in stock or made them to order and so subs would be unnecessary.

So if your original set had the GWR version, than that would have been the unusual one.

Keith

OO er , I actually hadn't thought about it that way round! So the GWR set may have been the exception ! Given that and the apparent unused condition of the BR hall I cant see me running that one so I think I will definately get myself a GWR loco to pull the pullmans to have a trip down memory lane.

Hi guys, i have another question for you.

I am also trying to re-assemble a Senior Freightliner set as this was the train set I received the following year - 1970. (I was an only child and spoilt a bit)
The set that I have has all the rolling stock and containers, but no track or crane.

My question however refers to the yellow road vehicles that appear in Catalogues 15 and 16.

In edition 15 the AEC artic truck with container are allocated reference number R575 and a release date of 'Autumn'. Was this ever issued??

In edition 16 a differant lorry is shown on page 15 , was this ever available?

Cheers in advance

Actually I meant to say in the past post, is there anyone out there who would like to sell me a working Freightliner crane to help complete my Senior Freightliner set?

Cheers
