trouble

i burght the local freight set and my brother played to hard with it now te motor doesnt when i swich it on it just make a noise does any one know how to fix this?

Depending on how old the set is I would still be inclined to return it to the place of purchase, if practical.
Could you describe the noise?

If the loco is buzzing power is probably getting to the motor, the thing to find out is are the pick ups /wheels clean and devoid of any fluff/deposits that may have formed, often this will solve the problem as all locos require clean contact to the power via the track.
I have just recieved a loco described as a non runner with the same problem after hsalf an hour of attention it runs as well as the day it was bought.

If the motor is buzzing but the loco isn't moving, another possibility is that the drive gear on the motor shaft has lost contact with the gears that drive the wheels. If that's the case, take it back the shop because it's not supposed to do that.
